An opportunity to play your part - The Head of Engineering for Customer Platforms is accountable for the end‑to‑end engineering capability, delivery performance and technical health of Customer Platforms across digital, CRM (including Salesforce), integration and contact centre technologies. Role ensures secure, scalable and resilient platforms that enable growth, improve customer experience and reduce cost to serve, whilst embedding strong engineering ownership within domain‑aligned teams, with a particular focus on maximising the value of Salesforce and associated platforms.

Location: UK‑based hybrid role, occasional travel to site.

Day to day:

  • Define and own the engineering strategy for Customer Platforms, including Salesforce, aligned to business and product goals.
  • Translate enterprise and retail strategy into actionable engineering roadmaps across digital, CRM (Salesforce) and integration domains.
  • Provide clear technical direction within agreed architectural guardrails, including Salesforce architecture and ecosystem.
  • Balance investment across innovation, resilience, simplification and regulatory obligations, including Salesforce optimisation.
  • Own predictable and high quality delivery across digital, CRM (Salesforce) and integration domains.
  • Ensure strong engineering practices that enable frequent, safe releases across all platforms including Salesforce.
  • Monitor and improve delivery metrics, quality indicators and platform reliability across Salesforce and broader customer platforms.
  • Remove systemic impediments that impact pace, quality or cost across engineering and Salesforce delivery.

Here's who we're looking for:

  • Significant demonstrable experience in software engineering with proven experience leading multi‑team engineering functions.
  • Experience owning large scale customer or digital platforms, including CRM platforms such as Salesforce.
  • Proven delivery of transformation programmes within enterprise environments.
  • Experience managing budgets, vendors and cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic leadership across cloud platforms, CRM ecosystems (including Salesforce) and digital integration layers.
  • Ability to define engineering strategy aligned to business outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, automation and reliability engineering.
  • Commercial acumen and governance awareness.
  • Capability to lead senior managers and build high‑performing teams.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent leadership experience in technology.
  • No mandatory certification required; however AWS, Salesforce or relevant cloud architecture certifications are strong.

Core Competencies & Technical Skills (AI and emerging technology):

  • Designs, integrates and operates AI‑enabled solutions within enterprise environments, including prompt‑driven workflows, retrieval‑augmented systems and AI agents, with awareness of integration into platforms such as Salesforce.
  • Applies structured evaluation, testing and monitoring practices to ensure AI outputs are reliable, secure and compliant with organisational guardrails.
  • Prepares and manages data used in AI workflows and takes responsibility for the responsible lifecycle of AI features from experimentation through deployment and continuous improvement.
