We have a great opportunity for a Smart Energy Trainer. You will play a critical role in the delivery and continuous improvement of Smart Metering Qualifications, the apprenticeship programme, and all associated Smart training and assessment requirements for Smart Energy Engineers. They are responsible for ensuring that all training is delivered in alignment with Centrica’s learning delivery principles, maintaining high standards of quality, consistency, and compliance across all programmes. This includes designing and facilitating engaging learning experiences, assessing learner progress, and providing constructive feedback to support individual development.
This is a site-based role at our Thatcham Academy. In addition to technical instruction, Smart Energy Trainers support apprentices throughout their learning journey, helping them build the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to perform effectively in real-world environments. They monitor performance closely, identify any gaps in learning, and implement appropriate interventions to ensure successful outcomes.
A key responsibility of the role is to ensure that employees experience a smooth, structured, and timely transition from training into the field following the successful completion of the apprenticeship programme. This involves preparing learners for operational demands, reinforcing safe working practices, and ensuring full competence in both technical and customer-facing aspects of the role. Ultimately, Smart Energy Trainers contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce capable of delivering excellent service and supporting the organisation’s wider smart energy objectives.
Must hold current CMA1/MET1 and MOCOPA.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Responsible for the learning delivery of the SMART Apprenticeship programme ensuring employees can demonstrate competence across all aspects of the SEE role and are compliant with relevant legislation and industry codes of practice.
- Training and Assessment for Smart Energy Engineers on ACS, MOCoPA and all mandatory requirements on the job role.
- Delivery of whole training schemes, programmes, and award schemes including the timely completion of documentation and review requirements.
- Liaise with the Delivery Team Manager and the Academy teams to ensure the Apprenticeship Programme is delivered on time and on budget.
- Provide LDM’s with relevant SEE knowledge and field experience to enable Apprentices to transition into SEE role.
- Build effective working relationships with key stakeholders across Centrica to enhance the profile of SMART and ensure quality delivery of a consistent Apprentice and Smart Energy Engineer programmes.
- Ensure HSE and legal conformance as well as actively promoting and role-modelling safety performance.
- Ensure operational and regulatory risks are managed and escalated as appropriate.
- Ensure there are adequate resources, including contingency arrangements, to deliver learning that meets employee and business needs.
- Maintain awareness of good delivery and facilitation practices and advancements that can be applied to learning activities across Centrica.
- Adhere to all delivery and facilitation procedures, in particular, to promote a culture where learners are treated fairly and have equal and appropriate access to learning.
- Review learning evaluations and act on feedback to support continuous improvement of delivery and facilitation in terms of learner experience and business impact.
- Identify and take opportunities to share knowledge and skills across delivery teams and wider Learning & Development function across Centrica, globally.
