About Your Team At Centrica Energy Storage +, our mission is to store it. Our onshore and offshore teams are united in their goal to boost the UK’s energy security and drive down bills for customers. Rough, our North Sea storage facility, currently provides half of the UK’s gas storage – enough to heat 2.4 million homes over winter. But we’re not stopping there. We’ve got our sights set on transforming it into the world's largest hydrogen storage facility and creating a Net Zero connected energy hub in the Humber.

Reporting to the Offshore Installation Manager the HSE Advisor will act as a consultant to the Operations and Maintenance Leadership teams on all Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental matters. As a member of the Centrica HSE team you will advise, support and develop relationships with the management teams both on and offshore.

Key Accountabilities
  • Promote, advise and enforce HS&E standards on CES assets by advising asset management on HS&E legislation compliance, company and industry standards.
  • Through programmes of inspection and audit of equipment, work systems, performance standards, plant and work practices identify unsafe practices and conditions and make recommendations for remedial action and long‑term improvement.
  • Provide support and guidance on hazard assessment, safe systems of work, occupational health & hygiene, environmental management/practices, process safety impacts, risk analysis and safety technology relevant to global, national and local standards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Lead, assist and support the asset management teams in the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and making recommendations to prevent a reoccurrence.
  • Ensure actions are implemented and lessons are learned throughout the organisation.
  • Prepare, collate and present information to onshore and offshore personnel on safety performance issues such as accident statistics, inspection and audit results, lessons learned (both internal and external) and good working practices to support continuous improvement.
  • Lead and participate in emergency response teams (on site controller offshore).
  • Develop and lead exercises to ensure continued preparedness and evaluate areas for improvement to build into the exercise plan.
  • Identify, evaluate and share best practices with other assets in and outside the CES organisation.
  • Fulfils the role of point contact for range of H&S functions i.e. HAVS Co‑ordinator (Hand Arm Vibration), COSHH Co‑ordinator, Noise competent person responsibilities, Legionella management, gas monitoring and validation, etc.
  • Actively encourage and establish the participation of CES safety representatives as means to create a culture and framework that is positive, forward looking, responsive, flexible and focused towards high levels of health, safety and environment performance.
  • Strive for continual personal development and improvement through education, qualifications and professional status to provide continual learning and knowledge sharing.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

The job holder must be an experienced HSE professional possessing a wide‑ranging knowledge of health safety and environmental systems, practices and legislation. This will be underpinned by a minimum of 3 years experience at a HSE advisor level within a major hazard operation in a continuous process industry. The role requires the possession and extensive knowledge of asset integrity practices and relevant legislation and must have good understanding of engineering principles as applied in a major hazard operation in the oil and gas industry. The HS&E Advisor will hold a diploma, NVQ 4 or equivalent in H&S. Highly developed leadership and negotiating skills to enable the motivation of personnel to align with and achieve business objectives. Good leadership, networking, decision making, planning, analytical and prioritisation skills; and the ability to influence and communicate at all levels are essential. Degree level qualification in HS&E related subject. Highly motivated.
