Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We're so much more than an energy company. We're a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn't rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That's why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently – we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

Our Electrical Engineering Summer Internship Scheme

Centrica is the UK's largest integrated energy company and, therefore, has a diverse portfolio of assets that offer you a chance to gain critical experience in a broad range of engineering activities.

Engineers are at the heart of developing, operating, upgrading and decommissioning all of Centrica's asset portfolio, including the largest gas store in the UK, offshore and onshore gas production assets, and Net Zero projects including solar, battery and hydrogen technologies. Our Summer Placement Scheme will immerse you in the engineering behind these assets, supporting dynamic teams in both technical and project functions.

During your internship, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to projects in areas such as gas processing, electricity generation, and energy storage. From day one, you'll be part of a collaborative team environment, where your input is valued and there's plenty to get involved in. The experience will require initiative, curiosity, and a proactive approach – and in return, you'll gain valuable insight into the energy sector and how your skills can make a real impact.

At Centrica, we believe face-to-face collaboration is key to making the most of your internship. While we support flexible working across the business, our summer interns are based full-time, predominantly in our London/Berkshire office to maximise learning, connection, and development.

What we need from you:

We want you to count yourself in! We welcome people from all walks of life who bring fresh perspectives, live our values, and work in line with our core behaviours. If that sounds like you, here's what we're looking for:

  • We're looking for penultimate-year MEng students or final-year BEng students who are planning on completing an MEng (or equivalent).
  • You should be expecting a 1st or 2:1 Master's degree in a Electrical (or closely related) engineering discipline.
  • If required, able to travel and stay away from home during your internship – flexibility is key to making the most of your experience!
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Preferably hold a full UK driving licence, as you may be required to travel to remote locations.
  • Available to start the 9 week scheme from 16th June 2026.

Here's what's in it for you

  • You'll be paid a salary of £24,000 (pro rata).
  • Accommodation will be provided for the duration of your internship if required.
  • Based on your performance you will also have the chance to earn a place on our 2027 Graduate Scheme following your final year of university.
