Salary: £40,133 + London allowance (£4160 - £6240 depending on location) + bonus, on-call payments & excellent benefits
OTE: Over £50,000
Location & Travel: North London / Cambridge / Chelmsford / Luton / Watford. Our team typically works north of the River Thames, with jobs reaching as far as Cromer and Peterborough. Daily travel can be high, but the rewards are worth it.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly capable and supportive team within Centrica CBS as a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Engineer.
- No two days are the same — you’ll work across a wide variety of sites including universities, leisure centres, hotels, hospitals, and even Powergen sites supporting the electrical grid.
- We offer extensive training in electrics, gas, and generators, including support to gain your Gas Safe qualification. Plus system controls training, dedicated engine manufacturer training and much more.
- You’ll be part of a friendly, knowledgeable team who support each other and enjoy regular team nights out to keep our bond strong.
- We’ve recently invested in a new fleet of vans to support your day-to-day travel.
What your day might look like:
- Receive your jobs via email each morning
- Attend services, breakdowns, part replacement or engine rebuilds.
- Manage your own diary, including oil store drops, collections, and part pickups from your designated collection box
- Operate, monitor, and maintain utilities including HVAC, WFI, purified water, and process equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems in line with SOPs and safety policies
- Maintain and secure spare parts inventory and recommend tools/equipment to improve efficiency
- Support engineers in developing methods to improve facilities processes
Key Skills & Experience
As a multi-skilled service engineer working on our world-leading CHP plants, you’ll be:
- Self-motivated with a strong eye for detail
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Skilled in customer/client communication
- Ambitious and eager to progress your career
Minimum Requirements:
- Mechanical craft qualification or higher (C&G, NVQ, ONC, HNC)
- Experience in field service roles on reciprocating engines or generators
- Ability to strip and repair engines to component level
- Knowledge of rotating equipment
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Good IT skills
- Strong health & safety awareness
- Excellent housekeeping standards
Desirable Experience:
- Working on CHP plants or generators
- Vehicle maintenance
- Experience with engines such as MTU, CAT, Perkins, MAN, Mercedes, MWM
