Combined Heat and Power Engineer – Centrica CBS
Salary: £40,133 plus London allowance (£4160-£6240 depending on location), bonus, on-call payments & benefits OTE: Over £50,000
Location & Travel: North London / Cambridge / Chelmsford / Luton / Watford. Typical work north of the River Thames, with jobs reaching as far as Cromer and Peterborough. Daily travel can be high.
What your day might look like:
- Receive your jobs via email each morning
- Attend services, breakdowns, part replacement or engine rebuilds
- Manage your own diary, including oil store drops, collections, and part pickups from your designated collection box
- Operate, monitor, and maintain utilities including HVAC, WFI, purified water, and process equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems in line with SOPs and safety policies
- Maintain and secure spare parts inventory and recommend tools/equipment to improve efficiency
- Support engineers in developing methods to improve facilities processes
Key Skills & Experience:
- Self‑motivated with a strong eye for detail
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Skilled in customer/client communication
- Ambitious and eager to progress your career
Minimum Requirements:
- Mechanical craft qualification or higher (C&G, NVQ, ONC, HNC)
- Experience in field service roles on reciprocating engines or generators
- Ability to strip and repair engines to component level
- Knowledge of rotating equipment
- Strong problem‑solving ability
- Good IT skills
- Strong health & safety awareness
- Excellent housekeeping standards
Desirable Experience:
- Working on CHP plants or generators
- Vehicle maintenance
- Experience with engines such as MTU, CAT, Perkins, MAN, Mercedes, MWM
