The purpose of the role is to provide legal support primarily for the gas and power trading activities of Centrica Energy.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic legal advice to the business to assist with the negotiation of agreements with a focus on gas and power trading.
- Negotiate and draft standard master agreements with external counterparties for physically and financially settled energy commodity trading (UK and Europe gas and power, emissions allowances, renewable certificates).
- Participate in project groups/work groups giving legal advice and assessments.
- Work as part of project teams for transactional work or to help implement new processes, products and systems such as approving new strategic business initiatives, new products and entry into new geographical jurisdictions.
- Draft and negotiate contracts in co-operation with the business.
- Develop and maintain templates for standard master agreements (ISDA, EFETs, MNA, GTMA, etc), proactively keeping up to date with legal developments of the agreements.
- Assess forthcoming legislation changes (in conjunction with Regulatory Affairs and Compliance as appropriate) and advise Centrica Energy on potential impact.
- Contribute to various initiatives within Centrica Energy and Centrica Group legal teams.
- Instruct and work with external counsel.
- Manage Centrica's overall legal risk position by ensuring that contracts reflect best practice.
- A law degree from a European country.
- Experience in drafting agreements and negotiating standard master agreements for physical and financial trading of power and gas (e.g., EFET, ISDA).
- Speak and write English fluently.
- Experience working as a legal counsel/attorney or similar.
- Ideally you will be a self-starter who can keep calm in a fast-moving environment whilst prioritising different tasks in cooperation with other legal counsels.
- The role also requires managing a varied workload to a high level of detail and the ability to break down complex legal matters for clear understanding and decision making.
- Depending on your specialties and interests this role could include working across European markets and other international markets in the future.
