Centrica Energy is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Counsel, Trading to join its dedicated legal team. Centrica Energy is a leading global renewable energy trading company that plays a pivotal role in moving energy from source to use, helping businesses and societies transition to a sustainable energy future. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for legal professionals with expertise in energy trading and commodities to make a significant impact in a fast-paced, global environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Legal Advice: Providing strategic counsel to the business to assist with negotiating agreements, with a specific focus on gas and power trading.
  • Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Negotiating and drafting standard master agreements (including ISDA, EFET, MNA, and GTMA) with external counterparties for physically and financially settled energy commodity trading (UK and European gas, power, emissions allowances, and renewable certificates).
  • Project & Transactional Support: Participating in project and workgroups to provide legal assessments, approve new strategic business initiatives, launch new products, and facilitate entry into new geographical jurisdictions.
  • Template Management: Developing, maintaining, and proactively updating standard master agreement templates in line with the latest legal developments.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assessing upcoming legislative changes in coordination with Regulatory Affairs and Compliance teams, and advising the business on potential impacts.
  • External Counsel Management: Instructing and collaborating with external legal counsel as required.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: A degree in law from the United Kingdom or a European country.
  • Professional Experience: Prior experience working as an in-house legal counsel, attorney, or in a similar professional legal capacity.
  • Domain Expertise: Proven experience in drafting and negotiating standard master agreements for physical and financial trading of power and gas (such as EFET, ISDA, etc.), along with solid commodities experience.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in both spoken and written English.
  • Key Attributes: A self-starter mindset with the ability to manage a varied workload, prioritize tasks effectively, and simplify complex legal issues for business decision-makers.

Work Location & Hybrid Model

This position offers a flexible hybrid working model. The role can be based out of any of Centrica Energy's primary offices located in London (UK), Aalborg (Denmark), or Copenhagen (Denmark).
