Reporting to the Group Sustainability Transformation Director, the Sustainability Transformation Manager will play a critical role in the development and implementation of the organisation's sustainability initiatives ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards including but not limited to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the EU Sustainability Taxonomy (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
The successful candidate will also be responsible for planning and co-ordinating programme management, ensuring requirements are scoped, developed and translated into plans whilst ensuring delivery controls are in place (e.g. managing risks, issues, finances and timelines). This position requires a dynamic and results-oriented individual who is passionate about sustainability and has a strong understanding of environmental management, social impact, systems, regulations and driving change within business through well managed programmes.
Key Accountabilities of the role:
- Support the CSRD Programme Director in the development and execution of relevant group-wide ESG compliance and change programmes for ESG requirements such as CSRD/CSDD.
- Support the development and implementation of CSRD/CSDDD processes across the group, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards in a consistent and coherent way, including alignment with other relevant programmes such as Risk & Controls Upgrade & Enterprise Risk Management.
- Lead the work across all functions and business units to coordinate the specification, identification, development and implementation of appropriate mechanisms for relevant data/metric capture including procuring and implementing new data systems where necessary, including for specific workstreams applicable to CSRD.
- Lead on ESG reporting system transformation seeking opportunities to drive efficiency and quality through automation, systems integration, AI etc.
- Work across the businesses and key functions to help establish ESG policies, goals and targets required by ESG regulations.
- Lead on project management ensuring requirements are scoped, developed and translated into plans whilst ensuring delivery controls are in place. Develop and document key milestones and cascade these through other workstreams and ensuring visibility and management against them.
- Prepare materials for, and help run Project Boards / Working groups and Exec Steer Co including the monitoring, review and reporting on all project and programme attributes.
- Lead on benchmarking of published peer reports to collect and disseminate relevant information to enable a comparison of material impacts, risks and opportunities as well as the approach to meeting regulatory datapoints.
- Lead the development of regulatory artefacts into structured spreadsheets to be used for gap analysis, implementation tracking and subsequent xBRL tagging.
- Working with internal stakeholders oversee the preparation and submission of compliant annual reporting in accordance with CSRD/CSDDD requirements.
- Support and facilitate internal communication and education on CSRD/CSDDD and related topics.
- Work with Group Finance to facilitate third party external assurance to prepare Centrica for successful limited assurance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders.
- Working with the Legal team, monitor and advise on imminent and future Environmental/Social/ESG regulatory changes, FAQs and best practices.
Main Purpose of the role:
The position will:
- Routinely collaborate with peers, business and functional management teams, including GBS across the group to develop and integrate Environmental/ESG requirements into business operations and as part of delivery governance.
- Attend routine cross-functional CSRD/CSDD working groups.
- Collaborate daily across all business units and functions, spanning numerous levels working with senior leaders and subject matter experts.
- Work closely with the HSE, Environmental, Responsible Business, People, Legal and Finance teams.
Work Experience & Functional/Technical Skills required:
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of sustainability principles, environmental/social regulations, compliance standards, and best practices, including CSRD, EU Taxonomy and CSDDD.
- Programme Management: A minimum of 3 years' experience delivering large projects within a structured project delivery life cycle.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex data effectively.
- Reporting: Experience in ESG data collection and analysis, development of metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), reporting systems and disclosures.
- Experience in automation of reporting processes and disclosures, including the implementation of new reporting systems.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, as well as simplify complex technical messages.
- Leadership: Demonstrated team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others in a matrix organisation.
- Project Management: Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within deadlines.
- Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
Education and Certifications required to perform the role:
- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, ESG or other relevant field.
- At least 3 years of experience in ESG, sustainability, or related roles, with a proven track record of successful programme development and implementation.
- Project Management Qualifications such as Prince II, APM or Agile desirable.

- A proactive and collaborative manager with a passion for sustainability and a commitment to driving positive change.
- Ability to work across a diverse set of stakeholders, motivating and influencing without direct authority.
- Ability to work in an agile way, comfortable with dealing with ambiguity and navigating varying levels of stakeholder successfully.
- Must be able to work under pressure and to constantly changing deadlines.
- Ability to plan effectively and to think beyond the bounds of the initiative being delivered to ensure wider change delivery success.
- Ability to challenge when something isn't right, or when something is not clearly understood to enable successful delivery and to make early intervention possible.
- Functionally IT literate with an ability to communicate effectively with both IT and non-IT professionals.
- Technically competent in using appropriate functionality in Microsoft Office data, presentation and planning tools to support and execute the job requirements.
