An opportunity to play your part: Centrica is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Engineer (Mobile) to join our Field Platform team. In this role, you'll provide technical leadership for the mobile engineering domain, helping to build world-class applications that enable our Field Engineers to deliver exceptional customer service. You'll play a key role in shaping technical strategy, driving engineering excellence and ensuring our mobile platforms remain scalable, reliable and innovative.

  • Contribute to growing high-performing engineering teams through technical recruitment, assessment and selection activities.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering stakeholders to influence product strategy, ensuring technical decisions align with customer, business and operational objectives.
  • Use your deep mobile engineering expertise to identify opportunities, shape future capabilities and drive product outcomes.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of business priorities, platform performance and engineering operating costs, helping teams balance innovation, value and sustainability.
  • Monitor delivery health and team performance, proactively identifying risks, removing blockers and driving improvements across ways of working.
  • Guide teams through technical and delivery challenges, ensuring a focus on simplicity, quality and customer value.

Engineering: Define and drive the technical strategy, architecture and standards for Centrica's mobile platforms and applications. Support critical incidents and post-incident reviews, driving learning and continuous improvement across engineering teams. Champion engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, operational excellence and modern software delivery approaches. Lead engineering communities, guilds and knowledge-sharing initiatives, helping to raise technical capability across the wider organisation. Stay current with emerging mobile technologies, industry trends and engineering practices, identifying opportunities to enhance Centrica's digital products and platforms.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong expertise in React Native and modern mobile application development.
  • Proven experience delivering and supporting mobile applications through the full development lifecycle, including deployment to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
  • Experience building robust automated testing strategies, including unit and integration testing.
  • Strong understanding of mobile CI/CD pipelines, release management and deployment automation.
  • Knowledge of mobile observability, alerting, monitoring and performance optimisation.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, influence engineering decisions and support multiple teams in delivering high-quality mobile solutions.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with native mobile development for iOS and/or Android.
  • Experience with UI and end-to-end testing frameworks and practices.
  • Knowledge of React and modern web technologies.
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs and web services.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps and modern cloud-based development toolchains.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Apps and Microsoft Intune.
  • Experience working in product-led, cross-functional teams and influencing technical direction across a broad engineering landscape.
