We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.

About your team: At Centrica Energy, our mission is to move it. We're energy movers by nature. We're a global renewable energy trading company which helps move energy from source to use - powering businesses, homes, and societies as they transition to a new sustainable energy future. If the idea of working to create a sustainable energy future also moves you, we may very well be the right place for you.

Location: The role can be based out of any of our offices in either London, Aalborg or Copenhagen on a hybrid basis.

The purpose of the role is to provide legal support primarily for the gas and power trading activities of Centrica Energy. You will have a variety of responsibilities including:

  • Providing strategic legal advice to the business to assist with the negotiation of agreements with a focus on gas and power trading.
  • Negotiating and drafting of standard master agreements with external counterparties for physically and financially settled energy commodity trading (UK and Europe gas and power, emissions allowances, renewable certificates).
  • Participating in project groups / work groups giving legal advice and assessments.
  • Working as part of project teams either for transactional work or to help implement new processes, products and systems such as approving new strategic business initiatives, new products and entry into new geographical jurisdictions.
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts in co-operation with the business.
  • Developing and maintaining templates for the standard master agreements (ISDA, EFETs, MNA, GTMA, etc), proactively keeping up to date with legal developments of the agreements.
  • Assessing applicable forthcoming legislation changes (in conjunction with Regulatory Affairs and Compliance as appropriate) and advising Centrica Energy on potential impact.
  • Contributing to various initiatives within Centrica Energy and Centrica Group legal teams.
  • Instructing and working with external counsel.
  • Managing Centrica's overall legal risk position by ensuring that contracts reflect best practice.

Who are we looking for?

  • A law degree from a European country.
  • Experience in drafting agreements and negotiating standard master agreements for physical and financial trading of power and gas like EFET, ISDA etc.
  • Speak and write English fluently.
  • Experience working as a legal counsel/attorney or similar.
  • Ideally you will be a self-starter who can keep calm in a fast-moving environment whilst prioritising different tasks appropriately in co-operation with other legal counsels.
  • The role also requires that you can manage a varied workload to a high level of detail and be able to break down complex legal matters effectively to allow for clear understanding and decision making.
  • Depending on your specialties and interests this role could include working across European markets and on other international markets in the future.

Why should you apply? We're not a perfect place - but we're a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That's why we've designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too.
