About your team: At Centrica Business Solutions, we're proud to partner with over 7,000 organisations globally - helping them to balance planet, with profit. We build, operate and maintain onsite, large-scale energy assets like Solar PV and Combined Heat and Power - to help businesses to save the planet and save money. We're also transforming the UK's energy landscape by partnering with landowners and developers to build a 900MW portfolio of new grid-scale solar farms and battery storage assets.
A Controls Technician is required for a key role in our Energy & Controls Centre (ECC), which forms part of the O&M function of the UK&I business. The primary purpose of the role is to ensure the optimal efficiency and performance of assets installed at CBS and customer sites, maximising value and returns for both customers and the business in line with contractual obligations. Assets supported by the role may include Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units, heating and hot water systems and associated Operational Technology (OT) controllers, devices and systems.
The role would suit a candidate who possesses the skills necessary to effectively interpret data from multiple sources, identify anomalies, then define and implement solutions.
What You'll Be Doing
- Monitoring CBS and customer assets to maximise efficiency in line with contractual terms
- Compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards
- Compliance with client's standards
- Being the subject matter expert of at least one of the core asset types deployed by CBS
- Providing 2nd line support for asset and connectivity related issues.
- OT system administration including asset integration, user management and report generation.
- OT connectivity management and maintenance, ensuring connection availability and compliance with cyber security standards.
- Knowledge sharing with internal and external stakeholders propagating best practice in asset monitoring and operation.
- Tracking KPI variance, analysis and proactive identification of issues affecting the performance.
- Conducting investigations into under-performance alongside the colleagues within the O&M, engineering and technology departments.
- Managing and prioritising workload in line with relevant contractual obligations
- Providing professional, concise communications to a variety of internal and external customers and stakeholders
- Maintaining accurate records of all tasks undertaken
- Producing reports detailing asset availability and performance patterns
- Supporting innovation projects and new developments
- Adhering to all applicable company policies, procedures and business ethics codes
- Representing and acting as an ambassador for the company in a professional and confidence-inspiring manner.
Who You'll Work With
- Daily collaboration with the Energy & Controls Centre (ECC) team and wider O&M department.
- Cross-functional engagement with engineering, technology, and sales teams.
- Regular communication with internal and external customers.
- Interaction with senior stakeholders during monthly business reviews.
What You'll Bring:
- Operational management experience across major plant, including CHP, boilers, LTHW services, pumping systems, chillers, and chilled water systems
- Experience with BMS interfaces, performance monitoring and OT systems
- Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) engineering background
- Familiarity with energy metering systems
- Experience working on live operational sites with critical systems requiring high resilience
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematics
- Strong ability to prioritise work based on risk, asset criticality, and business impact
- Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Skills & Knowledge:
- Understanding of Operational Technology /IT integration and networking.
- Awareness of OT cyber security threats and mitigation strategies.
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Strong communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
Education (Beneficial):
- ONC, HNC, or degree in electrical/electronic/mechanical engineering or a related discipline, accredited by the relevant engineering institution
