About Us
Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, is looking for a talented Functional Skills Trainer to join our London Accommodation Pathfinder service based in Barnet. We support vulnerable young people by giving them the practical and emotional support they need to find a job and live independently. Centrepoint provides homeless young people with accommodation, health support and life skills in order to get them back into education, training and employment. We want to end youth homelessness by 2037. Together with our partners, we support over 15,000 young people each year.
The London Accommodation Pathfinder (LAP) is a London‑wide pilot providing supported accommodation as an alternative to youth custody for children, primarily boys aged 16-17. The programme aims to reduce the use of custody, improve outcomes, and address racial disproportionality within the youth justice system, particularly for Black and Mixed‑heritage children. The service provides intensive, tailored support to help children move from pro‑offending to pro‑social identity and behaviours.
About You
- Ability to engage young people who are involved in the criminal justice system in accredited Functional Skills provision.
- Teaching and managing the administration of accredited qualifications.
- The post holder should have a specialism in English or Maths and be able to provide foundation level qualifications in both subjects.
- Ability to deliver creative and engaging learning while adhering to the requirements of the accreditation and curriculum processes and procedures for Centrepoint Skills and Employability in line with our strategic objectives.
- Ability to create a professional and empowering culture and provide innovative delivery plans to achieve performance outcomes in line with agreed KPIs.
- Effective communicator with natural ability to engage and build productive relationships with vulnerable young people.
- You will promote and inspire a learning culture within the team with an uncompromising commitment to excellence and fully integrate support and development services, reflecting the needs of learners with complex needs (SEMH).
- Strong track record of delivering results in a target‑driven setting.
- Passionate about enabling vulnerable young people to lead positive and progressive lives.
- Excellent at report writing and communicating with the team around each young person.
- Flexible, always adapting to changing needs and working as part of a team.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Working on a rota and lead the design and delivery of a timetabled program of 1‑2‑1 and group functional skills tutorials using innovative training and a variety of teaching styles to provide the highest quality to learners.
- Be responsible for gaining positive recognition of our delivery, winning quality and performance awards annually.
- Delivering a learning environment with a pilot supported housing project, that has ministerial oversight, to 16/17 year‑olds as an alternative to custodial sentences.
- Keeping key professionals, including Social Workers and Youth Justice practitioners up to date with young people’s progress, safeguarding needs and risk management plans.
- Creating and delivering innovative techniques to engage young people and enable them to achieve.
- Working within a tight, reflective and well‑coordinated integrated staff team.
- Generating positive outcomes with the young people to create a body of evidence that will be used to change the criminal justice’s response to 16/17 year olds who offend.
