Fife Council is recruiting two Technician Engineers to join the Network Management Team within Roads & Transportation Services. Reporting to the Lead Consultant, Traffic Management (South Fife), you will play a key role in delivering traffic management and road safety interventions that support safe, accessible, and well‑managed communities across the region.
In these roles, you will contribute to the effective delivery of high‑quality public services by ensuring all work complies with national standards, legislation, and Fife Council policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Traffic Regulation Orders in accordance with the Road Traffic Regulation Act
- Investigate and analyse local traffic and road safety concerns, developing evidence‑based solutions
- Prepare traffic engineering designs for a range of projects, including pedestrian crossings, road signs and markings, and minor civil engineering works
- Implement prioritised, low‑cost traffic management and road safety improvements
- Provide a customer‑focused service, engaging effectively with residents, elected members, and partner services
The Person
You will be educated to SCQF Level 7 (HNC, SVQ Level 4 or equivalent), ideally in Civil Engineering, and will bring extensive post‑qualification experience.
The posts are based at Bankhead Central, Glenrothes, with the Council’s blended workstyle in operation.
We are looking for individuals who:
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Can manage competing priorities and deliver multiple projects simultaneously
- Have strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills
- Can prepare cost estimates, manage small‑scale project budgets, and present reports to Area Committees
- Are proficient in technical software, including AutoCAD
- Have a sound understanding of relevant legislation, including the Road Traffic Regulation Act, Roads (Scotland) Act, and the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions
- Possess a solid grounding in civil engineering principles relating to road infrastructure
- Ability to travel throughout Fife at short notice
