We are recruiting six relief workers for the Complex Autism Service in Cowdenbeath. The role is part of a Complex Care Service supporting adults with autism and complex behaviours. Relief workers operate on a zero‑hour basis, selecting shifts that suit them while ensuring safe, consistent support for people with complex needs.
Responsibilities
- Support people to live safely and independently in their own homes.
- Use clear communication, structure and consistency to help individuals manage anxiety and navigate daily challenges.
- Deliver essential daily living skills such as personal care, cooking, shopping, attending appointments and managing medication.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to person‑centred support plans.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and clinical psychologists.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and apply Physical Intervention and Escape Techniques training.
- Roll out social inclusion and community engagement initiatives.
- Maintain a positive, supportive team culture and promote social inclusion.
Qualifications and Requirements

Working Pattern and Salary
- Contract Type: Casual; 0 hours per week, as and when required.
- Salary: FC4 £26,786.83 – £29,170.80 pro‑rata.
- Location: Complex Autism Service, Cowdenbeath.
Regulatory Requirements
- Register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of taking up employment.
- Obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland before appointment.
- Achievement of the Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 6 (SVQ2) or equivalent within the initial registration period will be supported to meet SSSC requirements.
