A growing Japanese manufacturer is seeking a Warehouse Operations Manager to support the launch and day-to-day operation of its new warehouse in Derbyshire.

This is a hands‑on role responsible for establishing efficient and safe warehouse operations, overseeing B2C/e-commerce fulfilment, inventory control and dispatch, and managing a small local warehouse team.

You will work closely with a Japanese Warehouse Manager while taking responsibility for local warehouse operations in the UK. The successful candidate will play an important role in establishing operational procedures, health and safety practices, staff training and efficient warehouse processes.

The ideal candidate will have solid experience in B2C or e-commerce warehouse operations, together with team management experience and a good understanding of UK warehouse health and safety requirements. Previous warehouse setup or launch experience would be highly advantageous.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage day‑to‑day warehouse operations including receiving, put‑away, storage, picking, packing and dispatch
  • Support the setup and launch of the new UK warehouse, including operational processes, warehouse procedures and workflow
  • Establish and maintain appropriate warehouse health and safety procedures in accordance with UK requirements
  • Manage B2C/e-commerce order fulfilment, ensuring accurate picking, packing and timely dispatch
  • Coordinate workloads, priorities and daily activities for a team of approximately 3-4 warehouse employees
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, attendance management and ongoing development of warehouse staff
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, conduct stock counts and investigate inventory discrepancies
  • Coordinate courier collections, shipping documentation, delivery issues and returns
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical improvements to warehouse efficiency and productivity
  • Monitor operational KPIs, maintain warehouse data and prepare regular reports
  • Liaise with courier companies, suppliers and other external parties in English
  • Work closely with the Japanese Warehouse Manager to implement company standards and resolve operational issues
  • Take a hands‑on approach and support warehouse activities directly when required

Ideal Candidate

  • At least 3 years of experience in warehouse, fulfilment or logistics operations
  • Experience in B2C / e-commerce fulfilment is strongly preferred
  • Experience supervising, coordinating or managing a warehouse team
  • Previous warehouse setup, launch or operational implementation experience would be highly advantageous
  • Good understanding of UK warehouse health and safety requirements and safe working practices
  • Strong inventory management experience
  • Good understanding of receiving, picking, packing, dispatch and returns processes
  • Experience implementing or improving SOPs, operational procedures or staff training would be advantageous
  • Strong organisational and practical problem‑solving skills
  • Business level of fluency in English
  • Conversational Japanese sufficient for day‑to‑day communication with the Japanese Warehouse Manager; written Japanese is not essential
  • Comfortable working in a hands‑on environment alongside the warehouse team

Conditions

  • Working Style: office / warehouse-based
  • Job Type: permanent, full-time
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, approximately 40 hours per week
  • Start: as soon as possible / negotiable
