About Us
Centrala exists to promote inclusion and wellbeing for Central and Eastern European (CEE) migrant communities in England. We leverage arts and culture to enhance social integration, understanding, respect, and cohesion between migrant and non-migrant communities.
Since April 2012, Centrala has operated as a Community Interest Company, responding to the need for support and space for newly arrived European migrant communities. Since 2015, we have also become a nationally and internationally recognised centre for Central and Eastern European art and artists.
We established a volunteer Advisory Board in 2015 to provide oversight and additional skills to our governance. The Board operates under a Memorandum of Understanding and adheres to the Nolan Principles.
The Advisory Board is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the organisation’s vision and mission, as well as providing governance oversight. In line with ACE Investment Principles, Board members are tasked with understanding stakeholder perspectives, ensuring alignment with organisational ambitions, supporting team and artist development, and maintaining a dynamic business model.
The Advisory Board meets regularly, at least four times a year, with formal agendas, financial reports, and recorded minutes to ensure transparency. Policies, including the Risk Register and Financial Policy, are reviewed annually. Quarterly reports are presented to the Board for review against funding agreements, ensuring timely communication with partners, stakeholders, and funders.
Successful Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the third sector, ideally having held a trustee or Non-Executive Director position. Experience in chairing meetings and knowledge of good governance within a regulated sector is desirable. The new Advisory Board Member will possess strong communication skills, financial acumen, and the ability to exercise independent judgement.
This is a unique opportunity for a socially driven individual to work with Centrala and directly influence its strategic direction. While the role is voluntary, we believe it to be one of the most rewarding opportunities in the not-for-profit arena.
Job Responsibilities
- Attend at least four board meetings and two finance committee meetings per year, actively participating in discussions and decision-making processes.

- Act in the best interest of the organisation and its stakeholders.
- Serve as an ambassador for the organisation, promoting its mission and values.
- Hold regular meetings with the Chief Executive and Board Directors.
- Contribute to the planning and management of the organisation.
- Support the organisation in navigating challenges and opportunities within the sector.
Skills
- Strong financial planning skills with the ability to analyse financial statements and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration with other board members and stakeholders.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ethical conduct and integrity, with a commitment to transparency and accountability.
Centrala is committed to ensuring our governance community reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We value inclusivity and diversity within our Board and Committee members as much as we do among our customers and colleagues.
