Central Recruitment is currently recruiting for a Support Mentor, to work in the Kensington & Chelsea area. The service supports residents who have multiple needs including mental health, substance and alcohol use, homelessness, and/or offending backgrounds to help them achieve their goals to improve their quality of life.
The successful candidate will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, working Monday - Friday 9AM - 5PM. Temporary cover is required for a minimum of 1 month, with the possibility of extension. The pay rate for this role is £13.38 per hour, with £1.95 holiday pay, totalling £15.33 per hour.
In this position, you will be required to:
- Hold a caseload of 7 key clients and conduct regular key working sessions resulting in agreed Support Plans.
- Carry out strengths-based assessments of need and risk and deliver holistic support and risk management plans, enabling residents/participants to achieve their aspirations and keep themselves safe.
- Support with creating a welcoming, psychologically informed home environment for residents, ensuring a continuous focus on safety, health, and wellbeing.
- Ensure the accommodation is clean, maintained to a high standard and meets all legal and statutory health and fire safety requirements to operate safely, effectively and efficiently.
- Ensure service responsibilities and requirements are carried out effectively. This includes but is not limited to welfare checks, risk assessments, safeguarding checks, training and development and other responsibilities required for effective service delivery.
- Ensure all residents understand their rights and responsibilities and have access to the right tools, resources and networks to support them in achieving their goals.
- Develop and encourage residents to participate in the running and development of various projects and activities.
- Empower residents to make decisions to take control over their lives, by creating an enabling environment.
- Provide advice, information, guidance and life skills training to residents.
- Recognise signs of deteriorating mental health, physical health, or other health implications and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent crisis or other risks.
- Complete safeguarding and other referrals when required.
- Ensure all case recording and information is accurately recorded in a timely manner, ensuring electronic records are protected in line with GDPR, kept up to date and written to a high standard.
- Maintain clean and tidy environments, remove rubbish, report repairs, order supplies and other general duties.
To apply for this role, you must have:
- Experience working with people of complex backgrounds including mental health, substance and alcohol use, homelessness, and/or offending.
- Experience creating co-produced support plans, providing appropriate interventions for residents and liaising with other professionals.
- Experience in providing housing support and practical assistance within a residential or outreach support role.
- Understanding and/or practical knowledge of the social and societal marginalisation that can be attached to people with complex needs.
- Understanding and/or practical application of key legislation regarding social care, housing, criminal justice, and mental health.
- Ability to influence and negotiate positive outcomes with others.
- Proactive in making decisions to deal with challenges and providing a solution focused approach using initiative.
- Trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach to overcome barriers and achieve goals.
- Ability to be passionate, emotionally intelligent, reliable and organised.
- Ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs.
- Ability and willingness to show flexibility of working patterns, responding to the needs of the service and residents.
Further requirements:
- Current valid right to work in the UK.
- Minimum 12 months’ of paid experience in a front line social care role within the last 3 years (unless recruitment criteria states otherwise).
- A fully enhanced DBS registered on the DBS update service or willingness to apply for one through Central (at a cost of £60).
- Employment or education history to cover the last 5 years which can be verified through the referencing process.
