Trust Wide Clinical Lead NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression: Consultant Clinical or Counselling Psychologist Or Talking Therapies Psychological Professional We have a unique and exciting opportunity for an established, innovative Senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist (or an NHS Talking Therapies Psychological Therapist with equivalent training and experience) to take a Trust wide clinical lead for our six highly regarded NHS Talking Therapies Services. You will have substantial Consultant level experience (or equivalent) leading psychological services and a detailed understanding NHS Talking Therapies services. The role involves leading the transformation of six large, dynamic and innovative Talking Therapies Services in diverse inner London boroughs and in Milton Keynes. Candidates will have strong clinical and leadership qualities and experience, a commitment to delivering high quality psychological therapy services and a passion for challenging health inequalities and discrimination. The services are at the forefront of developments in Talking Therapies employing Physical Activity Coordinators, Community Engagement Managers and piloting Digital Front Door approaches in addition to the usual Talking Therapies roles. You would be joining us at a time of significant change in investment in Talking Therapies nationally that will deliver improved outcomes for service users. Main duties of the job To provide strategic clinical leadership across the Trusts 6 Talking Therapies services enabling the transition to the new national model working closely to support service Clinical and Operational Leads and team. To tackle inequalities and discrimination, reducing health inequalities in completed treatment and recovery outcome. To enable transition of service models to engage more people in treatment and more people reaching recovery when completing treatment. To ensure enhanced community and service user co-production of service design. Delivering productivity, innovation and added value gains for the additional investment. Improving whole system pathways with primary care, secondary mental health care, acute physical health care and voluntary and community groups. Work across borough, divisional and Trust structures to co-ordinate developments and engage strategic leaders and to work with external strategic partners such as ICB, regional colleagues and national teams. Form collaborative relationships with partner providers in both North West London and Bedford, Luton & Milton Keynes ICBs. To lead the growth in research and innovation across the 6 Talking Therapies services. To ensure standards, KPIs and directorate targets for Talking Therapies services are being met and reported and contribute to wider system KPIs as appropriate. The London boroughs are Brent, Hillingdon, Harrow, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. Combined these services provide valuable psychological therapies to a population of over 1 million people covering some of the most diverse communities in London. Each year our services engage with more than 30,000 service users providing Talking Therapies services that make a real difference to the lives of those individuals and their families. Job description Job responsibilities Up to 0.1 wte time for direct clinical work can be available for the post holder, in a service to be agreed. To provide expertise and be responsible for the provision of a highly specialist Talking Therapies services. To take a lead in the effective working of the service and ensure a psychologically informed framework for the service area. To select and administer highly specialist psychological assessments, interpreting and integrating highly complex data drawn from several sources. To be expert in the skilled administration of psychometric tests, including skilled manipulation of test materials and to be able to supervise others in administration of psychometric tests. To provide expert psychological reports, including relevant formulation, opinion and interventions, in order to inform referrers and, where appropriate, service users. To respond appropriately and professionally to emotionally distressing situations in Talking Therapies and other services and to support others involved in such situations. To select and deliver evidence based psychological treatments, monitor outcome and modify and adapt interventions, drawing on a range of theoretical options. To work as an independent and autonomous professional within BPS guidelines and Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) [or other relevant professional body] guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions. To travel within and outside the Trust as appropriate and when required. To contribute to the effective working of the clinical teams, services and to a psychologically informed framework for the services. To assess and monitor service users risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans. To be responsible for psychological interventions with carers (or families as appropriate) of referred clients. To communicate skilfully and sensitively highly complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication. To act as keyworker taking responsibility for initiating planning and reviewing care plans. To co-ordinate (and chair) team, service meetings for the Talking Therapies Trust Wide network to ensure effective functioning and review when appropriate. To be aware of risk relating to aggressive and challenging behaviour amongst the client group, and follow trust policies relating to its management. To ensure learning across all service from reviews of Patient Safety Incidents, Complaints, Complements and other sources using PSIRF and SCARF principles of a just and learning culture. Teaching, training, and supervision To ensure appropriate systems for the clinical and professional supervision of psychologists & TT staff across the services. To ensure the development of the knowledge and skills base within Talking Therapies services by maintaining an active awareness of current developments in psychology and Talking Therapies and by implementing knowledge gained in practice. To provide expert psychological consultation and professional and clinical supervision to colleagues and more junior psychologists and to contribute to a psychologically informed framework within the service/directorate. To be responsible for planning, organising, and the delivery of teaching and training of pre and post- qualification psychologists and specialist training to other professions within your service area. To ensure systems are in place for the provision of specialist clinical placements for trainee clinical and/or trainee counselling psychologists in the directorate and services. To provide supervision for the psychological work of other multi-disciplinary staff as appropriate. To receive regular clinical and professional supervision according to HCPC, BPS and Trust guidelines. Management, recruitment, policy and service development To lead on the delivery of national and local targets and KPI for Talking Therapies services and the internal and external reporting of performance in particular making clear escalations where there are risks to performance targets being met. To participate as a senior clinician in the strategic planning and delivery of high quality and accessible mental health services for Talking Therapies clients advising both service and professional management on those aspects of services where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing. To be a senior member of the psychology and/or directorate management teams and to contribute to the work commissioned by these teams. To contribute to Trust and Directorate strategic development and implementation of new initiatives e.g. national guidelines including NICE, through membership of committees and/or working parties as required. To be responsible for systematic governance of meetings, and/or chair professional management meetings. To ensure a system is in place for the professional management and appraisal of more junior psychologists, assistant psychologists and other Talking Therapies professionals, as required. To initiate and implement service developments within the directorate/team to improve the quality of services, both within psychology and the broader services. To advise both service and professional management on factors adversely affecting service delivery and staff retention. To be responsible for managing the psychological resources available to the Talking Therapies teams both in terms of professional management of psychological staff and psychological materials employed in the assessment and treatment of clients. To liaise with other agencies and service providers in relation to the provision of psychological services as appropriate to the job. To take a lead role in the recruitment of psychology and other staff in line with Trust policy. To enhance and embed co-production with service users in planning and developing services, ensuring representation and voices from all the communities our teams service. To take a lead role in ensuring that services to clients are of a high quality and are managed efficiently, according to the overall requirements of the Trust and government policy (e.g. National Talking Therapies Manual, NICE guidance, NSF etc.) To be responsible for applying Trust and Directorate clinical governance standards within the borough or specialty psychological services and ensure that these are maintained and improved through audit procedures. To deputise when appropriate for the Chief Psychologist on matters relating to Talking Therapies and related services. The post holder will represent Talking Therapies services within the Trust Psychological Leadership Group, attending bi-monthly meetings and engaging in related leadership work streams. Research and service evaluation To increase service participation and initiation of local and national research. To lead on the initiation, undertaking and supervision of complex service evaluation and audit. To initiate appropriate research and to ensure systems are in place for research advice and supervision to other staff undertaking research within the service. To lead in the initiation, development and implementation of outcome measurement, and assist other staff in the same as appropriate. To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and published articles and to ensure such practice by other psychologists. General Responsibilities To ensure own Continuing Professional Development in line with HCPC requirements and Trust Personal Development Plan requirements. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current developments in professional and clinical practice and of relevant legislation and policies. To contribute and/or lead to Trust and Directorate strategic development and implementation of new initiatives e.g. national guidelines including NICE, through membership of committees and/or working parties as required. To comply with the HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and ensure professional development in line with the HPC Standards for Continuing Professional Development and in line Standards of Proficiency. To adhere to the BPS Psychology Professional Practice Guidelines and Trust policies and procedures. [Or equivalent professional body standards and regulations]. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, in line with professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry. To ensure via service design, supervision and appraisal, that the provision of psychological therapies within the sector are accessible and acceptable to all sections of the diverse communities that make up the Directorate. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate) that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registration. (A/I) Or a qualified Talking Therapies professional with additional clinical, academic and research training and qualification at least equivalent with Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice relevant to Talking Therapies services through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by the Chief Psychologist or a BPS National Assessor and an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma or higher. (A/I/R) Completed training course in clinical supervision. (A/I/R) Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC, or equivalent for Talking Therapies Professional.
