Specialist Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

We are delighted to be advertising a specialist clinical/counselling psychology post to progress and develop the psychology offer across all WCDS diagnostic and intervention pathways. We are looking for a dynamic clinical/counselling psychologist who has good insight and working knowledge of SEND and values multidisciplinary working. The post holder will work as part of a progressive psychology team within a larger multidisciplinary Child Development Service that provides assessment and intervention for children with neurodevelopmental differences. A primary focus for WCDS psychology has been to develop the social communication assessment pathway, including the pre and post-diagnostic support. The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working with children who have neurodevelopmental differences; however, applicants who are enthusiastic about gaining experience in this specialty and have a good knowledge of child development are encouraged to apply.

The post holder will receive support and supervision from a senior Psychologist. There are also significant opportunities to engage in peer supervision with colleagues in other trusts as well as collaboration with CDS/CAMHS child psychologists across the KCW patch.

Qualifications

• Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
• Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
• Further specialist training and experience in the administration and interpretation of the ADOS and a range of neuropsychological tests.

Experience

• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children with neurodevelopmental disorders across the full range of care settings.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course.
• Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
• Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.

Skills

• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
• Competent neuro-psychological and psychometric assessment skills.
• Knowledge about the application and adaptation of psychological approaches when working with children & adolescents with complex neuro-developmental difficulties.
• Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex data analysis.
• High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
