Location: Oak Lane Clinic, N2 8LT (Barnet and surrounding areas)

Position: Part-Time (22.5 hours/week, 3 days per week)

About the Role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nutrition and Dietetic Assistant to join the Paediatric Nutrition and Dietetic Team at Barnet's Central London Community Healthcare. This is a crucial supporting role within a highly-specialized team, focusing on the delivery of high-quality care to children who require tube feeding, specialized infant formulae, or oral nutritional supplements. We are seeking a self-motivated, reliable, and adaptable individual who has prior experience working in an NHS & Nutrition setting, or social care setting (whether in a hospital or community setting). You will be supporting our specialist paediatric dietitians in the delivery of essential services.

Main duties of the job:

  • To provide administrative assistance and support across the paediatric nutrition and dietetic service in Barnet including a home enteral feeding dietitian and an appropriate prescribing dietitian.
  • To work independently under the supervision of specialist paediatric dietitians to undertake clinical and administrative tasks and be responsible for own delegated workload whilst being flexible to the needs of the service.
  • To be responsible for inputting clinical activity data into relevant IT system and generating reports as required.
  • To work within an agreed framework for dealing with routine and urgent clinical problems, face to face or by telephone, seeking guidance from dietitians to agree action outside framework.
  • To communicate in an effective and timely way with accurate message taking from clients, carers, dietitians and other healthcare professionals with clear record keeping and dissemination of information to relevant staff.
  • To be responsible for organising own delegated clinical workload and administrative tasks and activities and to be flexible to the needs of the service.
  • To participate in clinical governance activities within the Nutrition and Dietetics Service.

Working Hours: This is a part-time position (22.5 hours per week), working 3 days per week. Flexible scheduling options are available, with a commitment to providing high-quality care during these hours.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience working in a health or social care environment, especially in a dietetic or nutrition-related role, is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols.
  • Good numeracy, literacy, and IT skills for record-keeping and documentation.
  • Previous experience in teaching or mentoring others in a healthcare setting is beneficial.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage your time effectively and handle a variety of tasks.
  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Person Specification:

  • Education/Qualification: Basic literacy, numeracy and level of education; Evidence of nutrition qualification, NVQ study to level 3 or equivalent qualification in Health and Social Care; Degree in Nutrition related subject.
  • Experience: To have experience of working as part of a team; Previous experience working with the public; Experience in dealing with members of the public who may have communication difficulties; To have administrative experience; To work independently within defined parameters; To have experience of working in a health care setting; To have previous experience of working as a Nutrition Assistant; To have experience of working as a member of a Dietetic Team; Experience in coordinating group education programmes.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Has a good knowledge of the role of the dietitian; Understands Health & Safety policy and is aware of the need to comply with other relevant Trust and departmental policies and procedures; Excellent IT skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Good organisation skills; Good communication skills in both verbal and written format; Ability to work both independently, following instructions and within a multi-disciplinary team; Ability to arrange events and meetings for clients and staff; Time management and organisational skills; Ability to respond to and prioritise tasks when identified; Ability to work in and adapt to a changing environment; Understanding the need for confidentiality; Understanding and commitment to Equal Opportunities; Ability to use initiative and know own limitations and development needs; Ability to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity to service users; Understanding awareness and experience of working with different ethnic communities within the borough; Awareness of anthropometric measurements and tools used in paediatrics e.g. growth charts.

Other: Able to carry out the duties of the post with or without adaptations. Able to travel about the Trust by walking, cycling, public transport or car. Able to carry out moderate physical effort throughout the day. Personally and professionally responsible. Able to self-motivate. Ability to be flexible, adaptable and reliable.
