Clinical Neuro Psychologist in London

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Neuropsychologist (Band 8a) to join a multidisciplinary team within the stroke rehabilitation services in the London Borough of Barnet. The successful candidate will provide specialized psychological services to individuals living with stroke and other long-term health conditions, helping them manage the complex physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges that arise following a stroke.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting neuropsychological assessments and providing therapeutic interventions for patients within the Edgware Community Rehabilitation Unit and community stroke services (including Early Stroke Discharge Team & Barnet Stroke Support Service).
• Supporting patients with a range of complex needs—physical, psychological, cognitive, and social—ensuring their care is holistic and tailored to enhance their recovery and long-term wellbeing.
• Taking the lead in delivering community-based psychological and neuropsychological interventions, including assessment, formulation, therapy, and discharge planning.
• Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to integrate psychological care within broader treatment plans, promoting health, independence, and optimal recovery outcomes for stroke patients.
• Providing consultation, advice, and supervision to other professionals in the team, enhancing the psychological care approach within the wider service.

Main duties of the job:

• Work as part of the integrated team for Barnet Inpatients and Stroke Services (Early Stroke Discharge team, Barnet Stroke Support Service, Edgware Community Rehabilitation Unit).
• Work independently and autonomously as a professional within the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) guidelines and local Trust policies.
• Select and administer specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments.
• Undertake risk assessment and risk management, providing specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultations to patients, their families and carers, and other multidisciplinary professionals.
• Formulate and deliver evidence-based psychological treatments within the service.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation, ensuring documents are updated to reflect changes in clinical needs in line with trust policy.
• Motivate/ negotiate with patients to change their lifestyle/ behaviour using psychological knowledge of behaviour change.
• The role will involve significant patient-facing work, with at least 80% of your time dedicated to direct clinical care.

Job responsibilities:

• Collaborate and Communicate: Use various communication methods (face-to-face, video, email, phone) to coordinate patient care, share information, and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, service users, and MDTs across trusts.
• Service Development and Consultation: Produce annual reports and audits on psychological services, offering recommendations for practice development.
• Supervision, Training, and Research: Manage workloads of assistant and trainee psychologists, support volunteer involvement, and deliver psycho-educational training to staff, patients, and carers.

Person Specification:

• Education/Qualification: MSc/Doctoral level training, or equivalent, in Clinical Psychology as recognized by the British Psychological Society and/or the Psychological Society of Ireland.
• Experience: Experience of specialist psychological assessment, treatment of patients across the range of care settings, and conducting clinically relevant research and audit.
• Skills & Knowledge: Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment and formulation, knowledge of cognitive behavioural therapy, and ability to work as an independent practitioner.
• Key Attributes: Ability to teach and train others, commitment to life-long learning, and ability to engage effectively with the patient group and their caregivers.

£53,751 to £68,623 a year per annum inclusive of HCAS (pro rata).
