Responsibilities
- Ensure the delivery of high‑quality clinical services within a clinical governance framework.
- Establish good relationships with and work as part of the multi‑disciplinary team, taking responsibility for the care of patients with sexual health and contraception needs, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment.
- Ensure all activities are carried out within CLCH Directorate policy and national guidelines.
- Act as a professional role‑model, lead and develop clinical practice and support/deputise for the Team Lead.
- Supervise, teach and assess registered and unregistered staff, including HCAs.
- Undertake health‑promotion activities to promote risk reduction in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Sexual Health (2001); work in line with BASHH and CoSRH guidance and complete competencies set out within the service.
- Recognise signs and symptoms of STIs.
- Screen asymptomatic and symptomatic male and female patients.
- Take male and female genital swabs.
- Perform microscopy and provide provisional STI diagnoses.
- Venepuncture.
- Conduct point‑of‑care testing for blood‑borne viruses.
- Treat named infections and administer contraception using Patient Group Directions (PGD) or work toward completing non‑medical prescribing.
- Be competent in insertion and removal of contraceptive implants or be willing to learn.
- Stay up to date and be able to advise, teach and counsel on all contraception methods, and be willing to train to fit and remove contraceptive implants.
- Maintain complete, clear and legible records of all clerical and legal documentation in accordance with policies and statutory requirements.
- Promote good practice and adopt a holistic approach to patient care at all times.
- Undertake any other clinical duties assigned by the Clinic Manager or Clinical Nurse Lead, including flexible hours and working across Sexual Health Hertfordshire; may be required to work weekends and evenings.
