An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Speech and Language Therapy team to work across two new primary aged ASD provisions in Brackenbury School and Wormholt School. This position offers part‑time hours of 15 per week. The post provides the opportunity to work within two brand new provisions opening in September 2026 to implement a wide range of therapeutic approaches and interventions in collaboration with education partners. Through joint planning and delivery of interventions in the classroom and through support to families you will ensure that SLT input has a functional impact for the pupils you support. You would be working alongside a senior SLT to set up a service delivery model within these schools.
Responsibilities:
- Providing a specialist service to children attending 2 ASD units for pupils aged between 4-11 years of age with ASD.
- Working closely with parents/carers and staff to enable the pupils to develop their speech, language and communication skills and to access the curriculum.
- Assessing the needs for, developing and implementing specialist Speech and Language Therapy treatment to children referred to the SLT Education service.
- Providing advice to others regarding the management and care of children with communication difficulties.
- Being accountable for own professional actions and recognising own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate.
- Providing some day-to-day supervision and peer review support to less experienced colleagues and students, including second opinions when necessary.
- Running appropriate in‑service training independently for school and other staff.
- Having well‑developed specialist skills in a specialist area of SLCN within the broad range of speech, language and communication needs encountered within the caseload of school‑aged children and young people including the use of augmentative and alternative communication.
- Liaising with other colleagues across a range of statutory and non‑statutory agencies.
