At The University of Law (ULaw), we're continuing to invest in our future. We're looking for an experienced Head of Finance Integration (FTC – 12 months) to play a pivotal role in bringing finance functions together following an exciting acquisition. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a high-profile integration project work, aligning finance processes, strengthening financial controls and improving reporting across the ULaw Group.

We're looking for a technically strong accountant who combines strategic thinking with a genuinely hands‑on approach. You'll be confident working independently at a senior level, getting into the detail of financial operations and turning complex challenges into practical solutions. Experience gained in accountancy practice, transaction services, financial due diligence or finance transformation would be particularly valuable. This is a delivery-focused role for someone who can do more than advise — you'll be expected to take ownership and drive improvements through to implementation.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Finance Governance & Reporting, you'll work alongside three Finance Directors, finance teams, program and project team members, subject matter specialists to align processes, controls and reporting across two finance functions. Your focus will be on understanding how each function operates, identifying differences, resolving accounting and control issues, and establishing consistent, effective ways of working. As a standalone, project-based role with no direct reports, you'll have the autonomy to manage priorities, influence senior stakeholders and deliver meaningful improvements. You'll have the opportunity to make a tangible impact during an important period of change, working directly with senior finance leaders and taking ownership of improvements that will strengthen finance operations across the ULaw Group.

We’re looking for a commercially minded, technically strong finance professional who can combine strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery. You’ll take ownership from identifying challenges and shaping solutions through to implementing change, getting into the detail where needed to resolve complex issues, strengthen financial controls and embed sustainable improvements. Confident working independently and alongside senior Finance leaders, you’ll turn analysis into action and ensure integration plans translate into tangible results.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead finance integration activities, aligning processes, controls, reporting and ways of working.
  • Review payables, receivables, balance sheets, reconciliations and month-end / year end processes, resolving accounting and data quality issues.
  • Review existing process maps, identify inefficiencies and control weaknesses, and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Assess finance processes and controls within Unit4 Agresso to improve consistency, accuracy and efficiency.
  • Work closely with Finance Directors and improvement teams to drive delivery and embed changes.
  • Communicate progress, risks and recommendations clearly to senior stakeholders.

What we’re looking for

Essential criteria

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience delivering finance integration, financial due diligence or finance transformation projects.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including payables, receivables, balance sheet reconciliations, financial controls and month-end reporting.
  • Experience mapping processes, identifying root causes and implementing practical improvements.
  • Confidence engaging senior stakeholders and communicating financial risks and recommendations.
  • A hands‑on, proactive approach, with the ability to work independently, manage ambiguity and deliver results.

Desirable criteria

  • Accountancy practice experience, particularly transaction services, financial due diligence, deal advisory or finance transformation consulting.
  • Experience integrating finance functions following an acquisition or other organisational change.
  • Experience using Unit4 Agresso.
  • Experience in higher education, private education or another complex, multi-entity organisation.

Primarily remote/homeworking with a contractual hybrid base of either London, Moorgate or Woking.

Closing date for application is Sunday 15th November 2026. If we receive a high volume of applications we reserve the right to close the advert early.

Why join us?

Along with a competitive salary of Up to £82,750, you’ll enjoy:

  • A generous annual leave entitlement of 30 days plus bank holidays.
  • Access to a wide range of staff and student discount platforms.
  • Private Medical Scheme and Life Assurance.
  • Contributory Pension Scheme.
  • Season Ticket Loans and Student Discounts.

Be part of a diverse and inclusive community. We are committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population. We actively seek to increase representation across all backgrounds and identities, and we provide support and adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
