HGV Mechanic, Technician (Qualified) Full-Time, Permanent Job Overview Due to expansion we are seeking an experienced and fully qualified HGV Mechanic/Technician to join our workshop team, supporting the maintenance, repair, and compliance of heavy goods vehicles.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring customer vehicles are maintained to the highest safety, legal, and operational standards.
This role requires someone who can work independently, demonstrate strong technical competence, and uphold excellent standards of health & safety, COSHH awareness, and workshop discipline.
You must also be confident using fleet maintenance software, job reporting systems, and customer portals.
Hours: Monday Friday, 06:0016:00 Following a successful trial period, there is an opportunity to complete IRTEC accreditation , subject to a training agreement.
Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and scheduled maintenance on HGVs.
Perform brake testing, adjustments, and full brake overhauls in line with DVSA standards.
Diagnose faults across engines, transmissions, driveline, braking systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
Use diagnostic equipment to identify issues within electronic control systems, CANbus networks, and vehicle management systems.
Prepare vehicles for MOT and take them to test when required.
Conduct safety inspections in accordance with DVSA and manufacturer guidelines.
Maintain accurate digital and paper-based records of all work carried out.
Follow all workshop health & safety procedures, COSHH requirements, and environmental controls.
Ensure the workshop remains clean, organised, and compliant at all times.
Minimum 2 years employment as an HGV Mechanic in the UK (mandatory).
NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent.
Strong diagnostic capability using modern diagnostic tools and software.
Solid understanding of HGV systems including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic components.
Good IT literacy for fleet software, job cards, and customer reporting systems.
Full UK driving licence (clean, or no more than 6 points).
Class 1 (C+E) licence required.
Knowledge of COSHH, risk assessments, and safe workshop practices.
Understanding of DVSA compliance, inspection intervals, and roadworthiness standards.
Reliable, punctual, and committed to high-quality workmanship.
