What will you be doing? Co-operation is central to making sure our stores thrive in their communities. At the very heart of great teamwork are great leaders: people like you who support, develop, and manage an exceptional team. With great leadership comes great responsibility. As a role model of the behaviours and standards you want to see in your teams, you’ll help communicate and lead our ways of working for new colleagues and provide them with growth opportunities to excel. Our customers, members, and communities are at the centre of everything we do. You’ll go above and beyond to provide every customer with the best experience, at any time they need it. You’ll help maintain the rapport our colleagues have with members in our communities. In this varied role, you’ll work closely as part of the management team, helping to lead and support the day-to-day running of the store. Key responsibilities as a Team Leader include: Managing performance, including conducting reviews and addressing poor performance. Ensuring colleagues adhere to Society policies and procedures. Taking responsibility for the store’s financial performance and compliance. Managing absence, including back-to-work interviews and improvement meetings. Understanding scheduling and productivity. Ensuring colleagues are trained and records are maintained. Communicating key messages and priorities with the team. Prioritising tasks to maximise sales opportunities and meet customer expectations. Leading change initiatives. Ensuring all colleagues work within health and safety guidelines. Maintaining colleague safety. Overseeing the day-to-day running of the store. As you step into your new role as a team leader, you’ll start with comprehensive training at one of our Difference Maker Academies. This program, lasting up to 4 weeks based on your prior experience, pairs you with an experienced Academy Mentor—someone who leads high-performing teams and is dedicated to helping colleagues grow and reach their potential. This immersive environment is designed to equip you with the essential skills for your role and set you up for long-term success with Central Co-op. Our Difference Maker Academies are stores with excellent operating standards, located around our trading area, featuring management teams passionate about helping colleagues develop and succeed. You’ll be able to claim expenses for any additional travel incurred while attending an Academy store. How will I know if I am right for this role? With previous Supervisor, Team Leader, or Duty Manager experience within a customer service environment, you’ll bring a passion for delivering exceptional customer service. You’ll need to be enthusiastic, proactive, and able to work with pace and flexibility. We seek individuals who take ownership of their development and can identify and nurture talent within their team through coaching. Being open-minded and curious, you’ll stay aware of current and upcoming promotions, identifying opportunities for growth that benefit the store’s operation, focusing on delivery and commercial success. As a warm and friendly team member, your love for engaging with customers will naturally translate into delivering outstanding service daily. You’ll be a great team player, building relationships through respect, support, and empathy, creating a foundation for effective teamwork. You’ll guide your team to support future progress and celebrate successes together. You’ll make a positive impact in your community and inspire your team to be motivated, informed, and engaged. What is in it for me? Alongside a competitive salary, our colleagues enjoy numerous benefits: Up to 20% colleague discount on products. Access to hundreds of retail discounts, savings on days out, and holiday discounts. Option to buy additional holiday leave. Recognition programs celebrating achievements. Family-friendly policies supporting life events. Profit sharing through Colleague Dividend. Paid volunteering days. Charity support via Give as You Earn. Healthcare Cashplan for health expenses.
