Overview
Caring for families is at the heart of what we do. You will be our families’ first point of contact whilst attending the scene of the recent bereavement. You’ll build relationships with families at a difficult moment as we take responsibility for the care and preparation of their loved one.
Working within our funeral team offers a unique and privileged experience. You’ll be showing people compassion and empathy on one of the most difficult days of their lives, whilst taking special care to deliver the highest standards of professional service. You’ll have the responsibility and privilege to look after the preparation and presentation of the person who has passed away, which includes washing and dressing them with the dignity and respect that this personal act requires.
Working on a permanent long day hour shift pattern: 8.00am to 8.06pm (4 days on and then 4 days off).
Please note as of 1st December 2023, new joiners to our Funeral Business will be subject to a standard DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. All offers will be conditional on us receiving a satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for families at the scene and during care of the deceased.
- Build relationships with families at a difficult moment and take responsibility for the care and preparation of their loved one.
- Deliver high standards of professional service with compassion and empathy.
- Look after the preparation and presentation of the deceased, including washing and dressing with dignity and respect.
- Work within a team, supporting colleagues across a range of duties, including transfer of the deceased.
- Meet shift requirements: permanent long day pattern with on-call and varying shifts as needed.
- Compliance with DBS check requirements for new joiners; offers conditional on satisfactory disclosure.
Qualifications and qualities
- Physical ability to lift and transfer the deceased person in care is essential.
- Full driving licence and readiness to assist with on-call schedule across varying shifts.
- Compassion, empathy and pride in professionalism; a care-focused mindset for the deceased and their families.
- Desire to pursue a long-term, fulfilling career in funeral care and willingness to learn with coaching and guidance.
