An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Product Development and Test Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing business in Consett.
The role involves supporting the design, testing, and conformity processes to ensure the sourcing or manufacturing of precise components/products. You will provide mechanical engineering and testing support, all while upholding professionalism and ethical standards.
Location: Consett with occasional national and international travel.
Salary: Up to £55,000
Working hours:
Monday to Thursday, 7:30am – 4:00pm;
Friday, 7:30am – 2:00pm
Key Duties:
- Assist in researching, designing, developing, and validating new products and improving existing designs.
- Support the specification and development of next-generation power and cable management products, ensuring they meet marketing requirements and comply with the latest national and international standards.
- Help produce and maintain technical files to comply with UK regulations and EU directives.
- Follow design and development procedures as required by ISO 9001 and the company’s ECO design policy.
- Participate in type testing and assist with test reporting and safety protocols in the test facility, in accordance with ISO 17025.
- Collaborate with the Industrialisation department to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective for production.
- Provide technical details to the Purchasing department for sourcing parts from external suppliers.
- Work with the Marketing team to verify the technical content of catalogues and technical manuals.
- Support the technical department on electrical and mechanical issues related to company products.
- Effectively utilise 2D and 3D CAD software in design tasks.
- Promote and adhere to company values and code of ethics.
Key Skills:
- Basic knowledge of UK Wiring Regulations and relevant national and international standards.
- Familiarity with power distribution and cable management products.
- Ability to assist in planning and managing product development projects and type testing programmes.
- Basic knowledge of using AutoCAD/Inventor and 3D modelling systems.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in spreadsheets, engineering databases, and presentation tools.
- Effective communication skills to interact with various stakeholders inside and outside the company.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
- Willingness to travel within and outside the UK as needed.
- Experience or knowledge of ISO 17025 test facility requirements is a plus.
Education and Professional Recognition:
- Educated to Degree/HND level in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
- Membership in the IET, IMechE, or equivalent engineering/technical institution is preferred.
Experience:
- Some experience in mechanical design and/or testing within a low voltage cable management or power distribution product manufacturing environment is desirable.
