Central Employment is currently supporting a Newcastle based group of companies with the recruitment of a Senior Payroll Officer.
This is a key role within a small Payroll team and will involve managing multiple end‑to‑end payrolls.
- Role Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of payroll, including processing starters and leavers, timesheet analysis, holiday pay calculations, statutory sick/maternity pay (SSP/SMP), HMRC submissions, and Payroll Year End obligations.
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, including overtime, shift allowances, statutory payments, and National Minimum Wage.
- Administer the pension scheme in line with Auto Enrolment and pension legislation.
- Respond to payroll queries relating to tax, NI, pension, and Auto Enrolment.
- Set up new payrolls and extract/prepare information from time recording systems.
- Design reports and upload information into payroll systems.
- Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve issues or errors.
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports as required.
- Keep up to date with changes in payroll regulations and best practices.
Person Specification
- Strong technical payroll experience, including RTI, SSP, SMP, and Auto Enrolment.
- Proven experience managing a medium/large‑sized payroll.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in weekly and monthly payroll processes.
- Proficient in i Trent (desirable).
- CIPP qualification (desirable).
- Fully competent in PAYE, NIC, SSP, SMP, and Auto Enrolment.
- Organised, methodical, and able to work to strict deadlines while identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- Professional and discreet, handling confidential information with integrity.
- Previous experience processing complex payrolls is essential.
