This role is responsible for delivering an accurate, compliant and timely payroll service, alongside providing comprehensive HR administrative support across the full employee lifecycle. You will ensure employees are paid correctly and on time, maintain payroll data integrity, and support HR processes including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations and benefits administration. The position plays a key role in supporting a positive employee experience and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll
- Collate and submit payroll data in line with strict deadlines
- Act as the main point of contact for the external payroll provider
- Review payroll reports, investigate discrepancies and resolve issues
- Authorise payroll prior to final submission
- Respond to employee queries relating to pay, tax, deductions and holiday
- Support managers with payroll queries and guidance
- Maintain and update HR/payroll systems with accurate employee data
- Administer statutory deductions and ensure timely payments to relevant bodies
- Support pension administration processes
- Post payroll journals into the accounting system
- Perform monthly payroll reconciliations
- Human Resources
- Act as a first point of contact for HR queries from employees and managers
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation
- Support the full recruitment process, including advertising roles and screening CVs
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes
- Prepare contracts, offer letters and new starter documentation
- Draft HR correspondence (e.g. disciplinary, grievance, absence) with guidance
- Support employee relations processes where required
- Assist with absence management, including return-to-work procedures
- Ensure HR files and records are maintained and compliant
- Build strong knowledge of internal departments and roles
Knowledge & Experience
- Essential:
- Strong understanding of payroll processes and HR administration
- Knowledge of PAYE, NIC and statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP)
- Basic accounting knowledge
- Experience managing multiple payrolls and/or entities
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Desirable:
- Exposure to high-volume onboarding environments or TUPE
- Experience with payroll/rota systems
- Aware of UK employment legislation
