A well-established manufacturing organisation is seeking an organised, reliable and motivated Purchase Ledger Clerk to join its accounts team. Based just outside Thirsk, this full-time permanent role offers a mix of purchase ledger responsibilities alongside some payroll administration support. Reporting to the Financial Controller, previous experience within a purchase ledger or accounts environment is essential, along with strong Excel skills. The workload is split across the week, with the majority focused on purchase ledger tasks and additional support provided to weekly payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing supplier invoices accurately and efficiently.
- Matching invoices to purchase orders and goods received notes.
- Preparing and processing supplier payment runs.
- Reconciling supplier statements and managing unallocated payments.
- Maintaining the accuracy of the Aged Creditors ledger and completing monthly reconciliations.
- Acting as the first point of contact for supplier queries and resolving issues promptly.
- Reconciling and processing monthly company credit card statements.
- Supporting general day-to-day finance administration as required.
Payroll Support Duties (Secondary Focus):
- Assisting with weekly payroll administration, including collecting and checking timesheets.
- Verifying overtime, additional payments and clock-card data.
- Entering payroll information into the payroll system accurately.
- Producing payroll BACS reports for approval.
About the Candidate
- Experienced within purchase ledger or accounts payable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Detail-oriented, organised and able to work to deadlines.
- A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
- Confident working both independently and as part of a small finance team.
- Experience with Opera (or similar payroll/accounting software) is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided.
