The Communications and Media Manager will manage ICB media relations and external communication activities, ensuring timely and accurate responses to press enquiries and proactive engagement with stakeholders. Reporting to the Communications and Media Senior Manager, the postholder will develop media strategies, build relationships with journalists, and deliver campaigns that promote the ICB’s work and reputation. They will also support partnership communications, working closely with system partners to ensure consistent messaging and collaborative approaches.

Main duties of the job:

  • Manage media relations and respond promptly to press enquiries, ensuring accurate, timely information that protects and promotes the organisation’s reputation.
  • Develop and deliver proactive media strategies and campaigns to raise awareness of key priorities and generate positive coverage.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and external stakeholders to secure balanced reporting and enhance trust.
  • Coordinate partnership communications across system organisations, ensuring consistent messaging and collaborative engagement.
  • Monitor media coverage and produce regular reports for senior leadership, highlighting trends, sentiment, and emerging issues.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., health, care, public services, management, or related discipline).

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience in managing teams or services within the NHS, public sector, or comparable complex environment.
  • Experience in leading and coordinating projects or services in a multi-agency environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to implement service improvements and contribute to organisational change.
  • Experience in operational planning, performance monitoring, and delivery of agreed objectives.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including clinicians, partner organisations, and community groups.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and influencing skills, able to present information clearly to different audiences.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively across teams and organisational boundaries.
