As part of this work, we are growing our Digital Team and investing in future talent. We’re looking to recruit two Digital Developer Apprenticeships for those who want to build a long term career in digital within the public sector.
As a Digital Developer Apprentice, you’ll join our Digital Team within the Customer & Digital Service. You’ll support the design, build and ongoing improvement of the council’s digital services, working closely with our Digital Product Manager, Digital Developers and Business Analysts.
This is a developmental role combining hands on experience with structured learning. You will work on real digital products used every day, while developing the skills needed to become a professional digital developer.
The Apprenticeship
You will be supported to undertake an apprenticeship with a clear development and progression pathway, to give you the skills and knowledge to succeed.
- Complete a Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship
- Attend structured training with an approved apprenticeship provider
- Build a professional portfolio demonstrating your learning and experience
- Gain practical experience working in an agile digital environment
- Have access to additional professional qualifications aligned to your role
You’ll be supported throughout the programme by experienced digital professionals.
What you’ll be doing
With support you will:
- Build and maintain online and assisted service forms
- Configure workflows, logic, validation rules and calculations
- Support automated processes and case creation
- Assist with payment and booking configuration
- Support integrations between digital services and core systems using APIs
- Take part in testing, user feedback and continuous improvement work
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Digital, IT, Data and council services
Who this role is for
We are looking for people with an interest in digital and technology who are keen to learn and develop.
- Starting out in your career
- Looking for a career change into digital
- Interested in how digital services improve customer experience
- Motivated to learn new skills and work as part of a team
You don’t need previous professional development experience, we’re looking for potential, curiosity and commitment.
The successful candidates will be enrolled on a Level 4 Software Development Apprenticeship Course.
The following entry requirements for the role and apprenticeship apply:
- GCSE Maths and English
- A minimum of 2 x A levels OR a level 3 apprenticeship OR another relevant qualification OR relevant experience
What happens after the apprenticeship?
This role sits within a career grade structure, designed to support progression into a permanent Digital Developer role.
Our intention is that, subject to successfully completing the Level 4 apprenticeship and meeting the required role standards, apprentices will continue in post as Digital Developers, progressing through the career grade as skills, experience and responsibility increase.
