Position Overview
Title: Teaching Assistant (Level 2)
Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus
Salary: Between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum (Pro‑Rata) depending on Evidence of Qualification and Experience
Hours/Weeks: 14 hours per week (Mondays and Fridays 09.00 – 16.00) – 37 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Part / Term Time
Right to Work: This is a UK based contract and you must have the Right to Work in the UK. Sponsorship is not offered.
Key Responsibilities
- Learner Support & Inclusion – Provide educational, personal and social support to students, including those with special educational needs, promoting inclusion and helping learners fully engage in learning activities.
- Classroom & Curriculum Support – Support teaching and learning activities under tutor guidance, prepare learning resources, assist delivery in Childcare and Health & Social Care, and provide class cover when required.
- Student Supervision & Safeguarding – Assist with college visits and off‑site activities, supervise learners appropriately, and ensure safeguarding, health & safety and professional standards are consistently upheld.
- Teamwork, Confidentiality & Professional Practice – Work collaboratively as part of a professional team, maintain confidentiality, follow College policies and contribute to the efficient running of the College.
- Training, Flexibility & Development – Participate in meetings, performance management and CPD, undertake varied duties as directed, and support College operations flexibly to meet learner and departmental needs.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Qualifications & Educational Background – Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification with GCSE English and maths at Grade 4/C or above.
- Classroom & Learner Support Experience – Experience supporting teaching and learning with 16+ or adult learners, following lesson plans and helping students meet learning objectives.
- Behaviour Management & Engagement – Confident in managing classroom behaviour, promoting engagement and maintaining a positive, inclusive learning environment.
- Communication, IT & Teamwork – Strong interpersonal and communication skills, basic IT capability (Microsoft Office, VLEs such as Moodle or Teams), and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
