Overview
Role: Security Assistant
Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus. You may be required to attend other college campuses in the region.
Salary: Between £25,497 and £27,519 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications. Actual salary approximately between £20,580 and £22,212 per annum DOE and Qualifications. Includes People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, and opportunities for professional and personal development.
Hours/Weeks: 40 hours per week – 36 weeks per year

About The Role
We are currently seeking three Security Assistants to join our Estates and Facilities department at The Bedford College Group. As a Security Assistant, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Campus Patrol & Safety Monitoring – Conduct regular internal and external patrols to maintain order, monitor behaviour, and ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.
- Emergency Response & Incident Management – Respond to emergencies (e.g. fire alarms, medical incidents, intruders), assist with lockdown procedures, and act professionally in challenging situations.
- Access Control & Crime Prevention – Check ID cards, prevent unauthorised access, protect property from theft or damage, and promote crime prevention across the campus.
- Operational Support & Flexibility – Assist with estates duties (e.g. deliveries, cleaning, furniture moves), support college events, and provide cover across campuses as required.
- Compliance & Professional Conduct – Uphold safeguarding, equality, and health & safety standards; maintain punctuality and professional appearance; and engage in training including first aid certification.
About You
- Qualifications & Training – SIA licence (or willingness to obtain), First Aid at Work qualification (or willingness to undertake), and GCSEs in English and Maths (A–C or equivalent).
- Experience & Knowledge – Experience working in customer-focused and public-facing environments, with basic health & safety awareness and understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Skills & Attributes – Strong verbal and written communication, ability to defuse difficult situations, follow instructions, and work independently or as part of a team with tact and diplomacy.
- Values & Conduct – Committed to College values (Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, Honesty), reliable, proactive, and professional in all interactions.
- Flexibility & Mobility – Holds a valid driving licence, has access to a vehicle, and is willing to work across all College sites and adapt hours to meet operational needs.
