About The Role

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Carpentry to join our Construction and Building Services department at The Bedford College group. As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Preparing, delivering and assessing subject specialisms on a range of courses, specifically focusing on Carpentry/Joinery to Level 3
  • Undertaking course administration as necessary.
  • Leading and contributing to curriculum developments within the Programme Area/Centre.
  • Carrying out course leadership duties where appropriate.
  • Teaching across a range of qualification types and levels with a particular focus on Carpentry/Joinery to Level 3
  • Participating in Construction curriculum development activities, particularly Carpentry and Joinery
  • Providing 1:1 Support/mentoring for students as part of a tutorial process.
  • Maintaining current industry knowledge and contributing to innovating teaching meeting industry recognised standards.
  • Developing and actively maintaining schemes of work for subjects taught.
  • Planning and preparing lessons.
  • Researching and developing new topics and identifying and creating teaching materials (including online resources).
  • Undertaking internal verification/moderation activities if and as required.
  • Monitoring, tracking, assessing, setting and marking students’ work, assignments, homework, etc.
  • Where appropriate, arranging work experience and carrying out student assessments in the workplace.
  • Preparing reports on students’ progress and performance.
  • Providing written summary reports to course and other managers on individual student progress.
  • Being responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and for raising any concerns in line with College procedures.
  • Being responsible for promoting equality and diversity in line with College procedures.
  • Being responsible for following health and safety requirements in line with College policy and procedures.
  • Participating proactively in training and development including qualification development required in the job role.

About You

  • Have Carpentry/Joinery Advanced Craft / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Have English and Maths or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent or be willing to work towards
  • Have a teaching qualification or be willing to work towards
  • Have successful experience as a teacher in an FE environment, particularly carpentry and joinery to level 3
  • Have evidence of high performance in previous roles/jobs
  • Possess the ability consistently to support a high-quality learning experience for all students
  • Possess the ability consistently to create a welcoming and supportive environment for students and/or customers
  • Possess the ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • Be willing to continuously update skills and knowledge
