About The Role

We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to join our Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group. As a Teaching Assistant, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Role Purpose – Support students with SEND across college courses (Entry Level to Level 3), enabling access to learning and promoting independence in line with individual support needs.
  • Student Support – Provide 1:1 or small group assistance, prepare and maintain learning resources, monitor progress against EHCP outcomes, and contribute to learner reports and reviews.
  • Collaboration & Mentoring – Work under the direction of ALS leaders and teaching staff, attend meetings, mentor new team members, and engage in college marketing and transition events.
  • Administration & Compliance – Maintain accurate records (support cards, ISPs, annual reviews), ensure safeguarding and welfare responsibilities, and uphold college policies and procedures.
  • Statutory Duties – Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and health & safety; participate in training and development to maintain professional standards.

About You

  • Qualifications – Level 2 in Maths and English; relevant Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • Knowledge & Experience – Working knowledge of SEND; experience supporting young people with SEND in educational or care settings; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Core Skills – Ability to deliver high-quality learning experiences, maintain accurate records, communicate effectively (face-to-face, written, telephone), and work independently while contributing positively to a team.
  • Values & Attributes – Positive and adaptable attitude; commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries; willingness to work across sites and promote the College’s reputation.
  • Additional Requirements – Responsibility for safeguarding children and young people; ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships; readiness to uphold health, safety, and equality standards.
