Role: Lecturer in Hairdressing, Barbering, and Media Makeup – Maternity Cover – Internal Only

Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum (DOE and Qualifications), 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 29.6 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About The Role

  • Teaching & Learning Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging Beauty Therapy lessons across a range of programmes, adapting to individual student needs and providing a high-quality learning experience.
  • Assessment & Student Progress: Assess, verify, and monitor student work in line with awarding body standards, tracking progress and taking action to support achievement and meet deadlines.
  • Student Support & Behaviour Management: Guide and motivate students to reach their potential, ensuring positive behaviour in line with the Student Code of Conduct and inclusive learning practices.
  • Curriculum Development & Industry Knowledge: Develop innovative learning materials, maintain up-to-date industry knowledge, and incorporate diversity, health & safety, and best practice into teaching.
  • Compliance & Professional Responsibilities: Maintain accurate records, meet administrative requirements, and uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and ongoing professional development standards.

About You

  • Qualifications & Industry Expertise: Level 3 qualification in Hair or Beauty Therapy, assessor qualification, industry experience, and up-to-date knowledge of sector developments.
  • Teaching & Professional Skills: Strong teaching ability across varying levels, including lesson planning, progress tracking, behaviour management, and commitment to achieving a teaching qualification.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse learners and maintain professional relationships and boundaries.
  • Organisation & Team Contribution: Highly organised with the ability to meet deadlines, contribute to team objectives, and uphold organisational values such as respect, honesty, and high performance.
  • Compliance, Flexibility & Development: Commitment to safeguarding, equality and diversity, and health & safety, with flexibility to travel, willingness to continuously develop skills, and maintain professional standards.
