Location: Chicksands Military Base, Bedford College Group

Salary: £24,522 - £26,754 per annum (DOE, qualifications). 27 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus bank holidays, Peoples Pension, retail and leisure discounts, professional and personal development opportunities, access to college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week | 52 weeks per year.

Contract Type: Fixed‑Term (01/09/2026 – 28/02/2027; maternity cover).

Eligibility: This is a UK based contract; you must have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not offered.

About the role

We are seeking a Supported Internship Job Coach to join our Adult & Community Learning & ESOL department at The Bedford College Group.

Responsibilities

  • Supports learners to overcome barriers to learning, particularly in assessments and assignments, enabling achievement across all levels and progression into employment or further opportunities.
  • Works with employers to source and develop work placements, volunteering and job opportunities, including job carving, ensuring health & safety compliance and ongoing placement support.
  • Develops and maintains individual learning and transition plans, conducts vocational profiling, monitors progress and reviews goals linked to employment, education and independence.
  • Supports applications, placements and travel training, identifies skills gaps and liaises with tutors to embed employability and independence skills within learning.
  • Works closely with staff, employers and external partners, maintains accurate records, supports team functions and upholds safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and CPD responsibilities.

Qualifications and attributes

  • Good general education with strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively support learners and stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of SEND, experience supporting young people in educational, work placement or care settings, and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage tasks efficiently and support learner development.
  • Adaptable, patient and proactive team player, able to use initiative, respond to learner needs and motivate others while promoting equal opportunities.
  • Flexible working approach with own transport, willingness to follow direction and commitment to safeguarding, including enhanced DBS clearance.
