About The Role

We are currently seeking a Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator to join our Outdoor Education department at The Bedford College Group. As a coordinator, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Programme Leadership & Delivery – Lead and coordinate the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme across the Bedford College Group, organising expeditions, volunteering, and skills activities to support student development.
  • Student Engagement & Support – Recruit and guide students through the DofE award, meeting regularly to encourage participation, progression, and successful completion of requirements.
  • Staff Collaboration & Training – Support and train staff across the college to deliver and assess DofE awards effectively, ensuring capability and consistency.
  • Partnerships & Promotion – Build relationships with external activity providers, and actively promote DofE through college events and open evenings to boost awareness and uptake.
  • Compliance & Responsibilities – Maintain accurate records (including eDofE), ensure programme compliance, and uphold safeguarding, equality, health & safety, and ongoing training requirements.

About You

  • Qualifications & Knowledge – GCSE English and Maths (A–C or equivalent), relevant outdoor and first aid qualifications, full UK driving licence, and strong understanding of the DofE award scheme.
  • Outdoor Leadership Experience – Proven experience leading groups in outdoor settings, including overnight residentials, with sound knowledge of health & safety requirements for trips and expeditions.
  • Interpersonal & Behaviour Management Skills – Ability to work with diverse groups, manage challenging behaviour, build positive relationships, and maintain appropriate boundaries with young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Professional & Organisational Skills – Strong time management, communication, and organisational abilities, with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining professionalism and promoting the organisation’s reputation.
  • Personal Attributes & Compliance Awareness – Commitment to equality and diversity, ongoing professional development, flexibility to travel across locations, and awareness of relevant health and safety standards.
