Job Overview

  • Fixed Term: 6 Months.
  • Flexible but up to 10 Programmed Activities (PAs).

The postholder will provide medical/psychiatric input into all CAMHS sub-teams, including initial assessments, psychiatric assessments, risk assessments, and delivery of treatments such as initiation and monitoring of pharmacological treatments. The role is part of the middle level duty rota (psychiatry) for Harrow CAMHS and includes support for the multidisciplinary team with comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management planning guided by the CAMHS care pathways and clinical model.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake psychiatric assessments of young people and families referred to the CAMHS team with mental health disorders, devise formulations and care plans, and provide interventions/treatments.
  • Assess children and adolescents with mental health problems, presenting acutely to the service or to paediatrics.
  • Provide treatment and therapy appropriate to level of training and experience under the general supervision of the consultant psychiatrist.
  • Attend service-wide meetings for peer education and discussion.
  • Attend CAMHS multidisciplinary team meetings for mutual support, in-service training, clinical case review, and opportunities for audit.
  • Participate in the provision of teaching to medical undergraduates and other professionals.
  • Ensure good record keeping of assessments and interventions, and contribute to reports and correspondence as outlined in the clinical protocol of the service.
  • Participate in continuing professional development.
  • Provide relevant reports for educational/social services planning.
  • Provide clinical care for other patients if their allocated doctor/case manager is unavailable.
  • Gain experience of psychological treatments.
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement, and research.
  • Communicate medical issues effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Education And Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Primary Medical Degree
  • GMC Licence to Practice
  • Full GMC registration

Desirable criteria

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Appropriate postgraduate qualifications
  • Section 12(2) Mental Health Act approval and AC Approval

Experience, Skills And Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Completed at least 4 years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term trainee or have equivalent experience and competencies.

Desirable criteria

  • 3-DI or ADI trained
  • ADOS trained
  • At least one year of experience in CAMHS neurodevelopmental work including ASD and ADHD assessments and management
  • Good knowledge of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Experience in psychopharmacology as applicable to CAMHS
  • Experience of Mental Health Act as applicable to CAMHS
  • Experience in a variety of therapies
