Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated individual to work as a Business and Transformation Manager within the Sexual Health and HIV Directorate. The post is a strategic one and requires collaborative work with a range of internal and external partners, including services, commissioners, communities, voluntary sector groups and others.
The post holder will be:
- Highly motivated and organised with experience in service development/transformation, project management, commercial development and general business support.
- Committed to improving clinical quality and patient experience, and will possess good technical and financial skills.
- Comfortable receiving high level direction from senior leaders and translating this into clear plans for the service, through to delivery.
- Comfortable working as both part of a team and under their own initiative.
Main duties of the job
- Support the service by taking lead responsibility for coordinating all operational aspects of business and service development and for the strategic planning.
- Take a lead role in the identification and delivery of service improvement, transformation and service redesign opportunities.
- Lead a programme of Business & Transformation priorities, utilising project/programme management principles, supporting and directing project leads including both the business & transformation team and wider clinical/operational staff.
- Assist the Directorate in redesigning services to identify cost efficiencies and possible savings.
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of service improvement programmes in line with requirements of Long Term Plan. Link to Divisional and Trust priorities.
- Be an integral member of the Sexual Health & HIV Services HIV senior management team. Play a key role in contributing to the overall management of the service and will be expected to take on responsibilities in relation to this as directed.
- Support the Implement Sym1 as the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Business and Service Development
- As part of the wider Divisional Strategy and Business plan coordinate the work to develop Service Line’s business and service development objectives, ensuring an appropriate balance of ‘top-down’ and ‘bottom-up’ approaches such that the resulting strategy and plan are tailored to deliver both Trust wide and local priorities.
- Establish business planning processes within the Service Line, to support both annual planning and contracting rounds, including preparing service for Long Term Plan requirements:
- Tracker of performance against existing priorities
- Tracker and forecast of activity and demand
- Tracker and forecast of income and expenditure
- ‘PEST’ (political, economic, social and technological) analysis
- Analysis of the Borough / Service Line’s strengths and weaknesses
- Analysis of local market and competitor activity
- Analysis of business opportunities and threats
- Collate, analyse and present a summary of the above information for review and discussion with the Head of Business and Transformation and local Management Team at regular intervals to enable review of progress against existing plans and timely development of strategies and plans for the future.
- Lead the Service Line’s quarterly annual planning progress presentation to the Divisional Management Group.
- Lead work within the Service Line to identify, evaluate and take forward new potential business and service developments. Lead the development of business proposals and formal business cases for investment. Ensure that both clinicians and managers are engaged in the business and service development agenda and are supported and encouraged to spot and pursue income generation opportunities.
- Develop a clear understanding of all aspects of service delivery, and ensure that the business agenda promotes effective service delivery and improved care for service users and carers.
- Service Improvement, Redesign and Transformation
- Coordinate work with clinicians, managers and other staff across the Service Line to develop and test new ideas and approaches that could bring about increased quality and efficiency, working closely with the Head of Transformation & Business Development and Service Improvement Manager.
- Develop links with external agencies/bodies to maintain a working knowledge of service improvement & modernisation strategies, programmes and tools and techniques.
- Support the Head of Transformation & Business Development in the delivery of the Division’s Transformation priorities, operating as the Service line lead.
- Lead the local coordination of service improvement and transformation workstreams across the Service Line, utilising service improvement techniques, these will include the development and delivery of Cost Improvement Plans, QIPP schemes, CQUINs and local Service Development and Improvement Plans.
- Lead on complex change management programmes within the Service Line, working across service areas with clinical teams and managers to improve delivery of services and outcomes for service users.
- Provide training and support to managers and clinical teams in all aspects of managing change and delivering service improvements, making use of evidence-based tools and techniques.
- Project and Programme Management
- Take a lead role in managing, coordinating and overseeing the delivery of a number of related projects and activities and major initiatives within the Service Line to achieve beneficial change in line with the strategic objectives of the Trust.
- Planning, supporting and managing the implementation of projects with agreed project management processes within the defined quality, time and cost constraints across a wide area of clinical and non-clinical services.
- Undertaking high level monitoring, recording and reporting of all aspects of an ongoing programme of agreed projects led by Service Line staff from different services and sites across the Division.
- Leading the design, development and implementation of a programme of training, mentoring and staff development to improve project management capability of Service Line staff across different services and sites.
