Central Alliance, part of the RSK Group, have a unique opportunity for a SHEQ Advisor to join their team, reporting through to the Senior Leadership Team. The role is based out of our Wakefield and/or Normanton Offices, with some occasional travel to visit our work and flexibility to work from home once competent in role. We are offering the role on a full-time, permanent basis.
The successful candidate will advise and support Central Alliance to comply with our Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 and SHEQ policy, within the below areas, to assist in creating and maintaining a safe environment for all employees:

Accountabilities
- Contribute expert information and sound, timely and respectful opinions on all SHEQ related items, providing direction and leadership within the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and across the business.
- Drive, promote and implement a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in all elements of SHEQ throughout the business.
- Provide proactive support and guidance to the business on compliance with statutory requirements and company standards.
- Develop and deliver, where necessary, business-wide SHEQ training and coaching programs, tailored to differing roles in the business.
- Manage employee SHEQ compliance, competency and training effectively, so no employees are at risk of injury, harm or at risk of breaching SHEQ rules and regulations.
- Maintain common process for assessing risk across all SHEQ documents including Site Specific Risk Assessments / H&S Plans, RAMS and POWRA’s (across all departments).
- Ensure risk assessment training is provided to all staff undertaking site operations.
- Ensure all incidents, accidents and near-misses within the business are reported in accordance with RSK and client reporting requirements.
- Manage and ensure all staff are trained in incident reporting (incidents, accidents, near-misses) and safety observation reporting.
- Present key SHEQ metrics and performance to KPIs at monthly and quarterly meetings.
- Discuss significant incidents, accidents and near-misses to the team, along with safety observations, so all are aware.
- Challenge our systems, process, and technology to strive towards solutions that will make undertaking key business tasks safer, which in turn will lead to increased sales, reduced costs, increased productivity.
- Develop knowledge of British Drilling Association (BDA) requirements and guidelines, which will enable you to complete high quality SHEQ audits on drilling rigs and will enable you to play an active and effective role in incident investigations for the Ground Investigation department.
- Provide safe, effective and best practice guidance / assistance to any SHEQ questions or requests for support and help that arise from employees within the business.
- Provide resources for SHEQ training and upskilling for all stratum levels in the business – training to be relevant to role holders.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the RSK Group, embracing diversity of thought and experience, to maximise excellence in SHEQ.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, to foster repeat business, which includes visiting and liaising with key client SHEQ teams.
- Create a culture and demonstrate firsthand that safety is the first value - we aim for zero harm, and we encourage staff to stop work and report if unsafe.
- Proactively support and closely work with operational teams, particularly Directors and Heads of Departments, to ensure that all elements of SHEQ are considered at all stages across the business.
- Ensure all risks, with a focus on critical risks, are identified for works in which the business conducts, and that relevant control measures are implemented with appropriate risk mitigation plans / actions put in place to keep our people and the environment safe.
- Conduct regular workplace audits, ensuring health and safety, environmental and quality standards are met, including equipment is fit for purpose and appropriately tagged.
- Investigate incidents, accidents and near-misses, where required in a timely and fair manner, producing detailed, factual reports (to include Root Cause Analysis for events ranked as high or significant) identifying root causes and recommendations for improvement / corrective actions.
- Assist in the completion / review of risk assessments across the business, ensuring you keep up to date with new legislation and industry best practices.
- Raise awareness on SHEQ and sustainability issues through toolbox talks and briefings, delivering training where necessary, cascade to department leads to assist with delivery.
- Review health monitoring process and support Line Manager’s with assessment of results and any required actions.
- Drive the success of the Safety Representatives Committee, promote attendance of safety reps and follow up on non-attendance.
- Work with Directors to facilitate a plan to help make this a successful committee.
About You
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety or equivalent essential, NEBOSH International Construction Certificate in Health & Safety Management desirable
- Demonstrable & varied experience in delivering Safe Systems of Work and workplace Health and Safety Management
- Knowledge and experience working in a SHEQ role across sectors such as Rail, Highways, Clean Energy, Water, Mining, Waste, Utilities, Environmental, Property and Construction
- Experience in compliance with CDM regulations and production of H&S documentation
- Experience leading and/or influencing teams that are high performing and exhibit a safe, positive work culture
- Experienced in appropriately structuring and writing health and safety processes and procedures to deliver on business strategy (Risk Assessments, Method Statements etc.)
- Experienced and competent at investigating incidents to a high standard, providing sound recommendations
- Ability to provide professional health and safety guidance & task management across the business
- Understanding of industry relevant guidance and standards
- Competent in change management
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments and manage urgent / complex tasks simultaneously
- Ability to establish strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients
- Exemplary commitment to and role modelling of safety and improving ways of working
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literate with working knowledge of at least Microsoft packages
- Unrestricted work rights in United Kingdom
- Driving license
