We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected fire and security specialist for a Senior Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer to join their growing life-safety engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and technically strong engineer who is confident taking ownership of commissioning activities on complex projects, while also providing leadership and guidance on-site.

The Role

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the full commissioning lifecycle of fire detection and alarm systems—from programming and testing through to final handover. You will act as a technical authority on-site, supporting installation teams, liaising with stakeholders, and ensuring all systems are delivered in line with BS 5839-1 and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission and validate both addressable and conventional fire alarm systems
  • Program and configure fire alarm control panels from leading manufacturers
  • Carry out cause-and-effect testing, system verification, and client acceptance testing
  • Produce detailed commissioning documentation, including reports and certification
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and installation teams
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and project managers throughout delivery
  • Diagnose and resolve complex faults and system integration issues
  • Lead commissioning phases on large-scale or technically complex projects
  • Ensure all work complies with industry standards and best practices

About You

  • Level 3 qualification in BS 5839-1 (essential)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience commissioning fire alarm systems
  • Strong working knowledge of systems such as Advanced, Kentec, Morley, Gent, Notifier, Apollo, and Hochiki
  • Solid understanding of cause-and-effect programming, networking, and system integration
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers
  • IT literate, with experience using commissioning software and reporting tools
  • Full UK driving licence (essential)
  • Motivated to progress and take on increasing responsibility
