The ideal candidate will have a high level of attention to detail, be familiar with how an interconnection works, and have experience with Server/Network/OTN equipment. They should possess skills in physical and logical circuit and server troubleshooting across multiple internal stakeholders, external vendors, and time zones. Flexibility with numerous tracking platforms and sheets, as well as a keen interest in improvement processes and solutions, is essential.
Prior experience in a fast-paced environment is preferred, particularly in the Telco/Infrastructure field, and managing external vendors and data centres. Responsibilities include:
- Troubleshooting server and network hardware including fibre/optic cables, optics, and hardware components.
- Directly executing or managing local vendor technicians for servers, circuits, and maintenance troubleshooting.
- Facilitating physical layer installation of server and network cabling according to cabling matrices.
- Providing ongoing support of the production environment and coordinating with vendors, system owners, and other operations teams to resolve any issues.
- Posting documentation on each implementation.
- Participating in On-Call Rotation for Ad-Hoc troubleshooting between internal teams and external providers.
- Assisting with other regional works during business hours for maintenance-related tasks.
Data accuracy is crucial, including:
- Inventory Database Improvement Strategy.
- Server Inventory database.
- Circuit Inventory database.
- Spares Inventory database - Creating a plan for a healthy amount of spares at each site/warehouse and triggering requests for additional spares when it reaches a certain threshold.
- Raising Site and Vendor Remote Hands to perform site audits when needed.
Ad-Hoc tasks include:
- Working with SCM, equipment vendors, and datacentres to manage delivery dates and time windows.
- Vendor Support - Scheduling onsite technicians and providing site access requests for all ad-hoc/scheduled activities.
- Submitting Vendor Remote Hands Requests to support physical works on site.
- Performing regular audits for all server, circuits, and spares inventory.
Requirements:
- 2+ years experience in datacentre or corporate/enterprise IT infrastructure, operating in IT best practices (ITIL), and within equipment lifecycle processes.
- Knowledge of relevant technologies - fibre optics, DWDM/CWDM devices, network interface types: form factors and protocols.
- Experience planning and coordinating with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, and vendors with Telecom ISP and Colo Providers.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and provide effective remote technical guidance and troubleshooting.
- Basic command-line proficiency in Linux/Unix and any switch OS CLI.
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Experience coordinating/leading junior field operation technicians/engineers, contractors, and/or vendors in a telecommunications working environment.
- Anticipating problems in planning and proactively limiting project-impacting factors.
- Strong documentation skills for technical processes & procedures as well as accurately recording large amounts of detailed data.
- Relevant Certifications: Server+, Network+, A+, CDCTP, CDCPM, etc.
