Controls & Automation Engineer Location: Fort William, Scotland Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Competitive (starting bonus and relocation package available) About the Role We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Controls & Automation Engineer to join our engineering team in the heart of the Scottish Highlands at our Fort William site. This hands-on role is central to the reliability, performance, and improvement of our control systems across a 24/7 operational site. Whether you’re experienced in heavy industry, manufacturing, or utilities, this is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing, safety-focused engineering environment where your skills will directly impact production reliability and team development. Key Responsibilities * Maintain and develop site control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA) to minimise downtime. * Troubleshoot complex control system faults and ensure rapid recovery post-failure. * Deliver multiple automation/control projects, including site-wide improvements. * Support capital electrical engineering projects with control systems input. * Provide technical mentorship to engineers and apprentices. * Lead safe systems of work and ensure contractor compliance with HSEQ protocols. * Maintain up-to-date technical documentation and support configuration management. What You’ll Need Essential: * Electrical & instrumentation knowledge. * PLC programming experience (Siemens, Rockwell, etc.) * HMI and SCADA systems experience. * HND or above in an engineering discipline. * Strong communication skills and practical fault-finding ability. Desirable: * COMAH site experience. * Knowledge of UK HSE regulations and electrical standards. * Experience leading or coaching engineers and technicians. Working Hours * Monday to Thursday: 7:30am – 4:00pm * Friday: 7:30am – 12:30pm (No weekend working – excellent work-life balance.)
