About the role
We are recruiting a Zero Emission Infrastructure Connections and Standards Specialist for our Technical Innovation team. The Senior Specialist will act as a technical authority on EV charging within Cenex, providing advice and support for our public and private sector clients.
Responsibilities include:
- Act as technical authority on EVI products and services, including standards, regulations, design, installation, grid connection, wireless charging and EMF compliance.
- Provide deep market and technology expertise across innovative charging solutions (e.g., V2X, wireless, kerbside/lamppost charging), charge point providers, back‑office systems and battery‑supported charging.
- Lead EVI market opportunity assessments, including SWOT analysis, competing technology reviews, supplier assessment, standards compliance and market potential evaluation.
- Deliver independent technology appraisal and due diligence of EVI solutions, assessing compliance, performance, safety, cyber security and technical risk.
- Develop EVI technical and procurement specifications, covering design, installation, network connection and operational performance.
- Support public and private sector procurement and deployment through supplier evaluation, site feasibility assessments and technical audits of installation quality and compliance.
- Design and deliver EVI trials, pilots and demonstrations, including systems integration, commissioning, performance evaluation, business case development and user feedback.
- Undertake research and provide technical advice across supporting low emission technologies such as battery technologies, CAM infrastructure, vehicle standards, prosumer solutions, safety and cyber.
- Support business development through strategic input, written methodologies, publicising Cenex’s credentials, proposal writing and lead generation.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or above in a relevant STEM subject.
- Expert knowledge of electrical wiring standards, including BS7671, ENA Engineering Recommendations, and EV charging equipment standards such as IEC61851, IEC62196, IEC61980, ISO15118.
- Understanding of the UK electricity system architecture, markets and energy systems.
- Ability to analyse and present technically challenging data and content in accessible verbal and written form.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills and report construction.
- Strong interpersonal and client engagement skills.
- Ability to project‑manage technical, multidisciplinary research and consultancy projects.
- Ability to work and travel flexibly in the UK, and on occasion abroad.
- Five years’ experience in an EVI technical design, consulting or deployment role.
- Relevant or transferable industrial experience.
- Knowledge of low and zero emission transport and alternative fuel technologies.
- Interest in emergent transport decarbonisation areas such as marine, farming and construction.
- Experience managing research and/or consultancy projects.
- Experience designing equipment test and trial, and specifying instrumentation.
- Data collection and analysis skills.
- International experience and/or ability to work in a second language.
