Overview

This role is in support of Cencora\’s wholesale distribution services in Europe operating through our Alliance Healthcare business. This is a truly exciting opportunity to be part of Alliance Healthcare UK\’s new, next-generation Central Logistics Centre (CLC). You will play a pivotal role in the launch, continuous improvement and ongoing success of this world-class, game-changing facility. Designed with advanced automation and cutting-edge robotics, the CLC is set to redefine how Alliance Healthcare manages and delivers medical, health and beauty products to our customers across the UK. The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager plays a key role in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment and is responsible for implementing and monitoring the organisation\’s safety standards. Reporting to the EHS Manager, this includes supporting site management teams in meeting these standards, delivering training to both management and team members, and ensuring ongoing compliance with safety regulations. The role is critical in promoting a culture of safety, reducing risks, and maintaining high levels of health and safety performance across all operations.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the requirements of all statutory safety, fire, and environmental regulations within the area of responsibility through the operational management team. Knowledge of BREEAM accreditation would be an advantage.
  • Oversee the risk management strategy within the area of responsibility, providing advice and support to improve performance. In line with our aspiration to have zero accidents.
  • Ensure legislative compliance is adhered to at the design and implementation stages of projects by working collaboratively and proactively with project teams.
  • Work with the Senior Team to create a world class safety culture.
  • Periodically inspect all areas to observe whether safe working practices are effective, and that the workplace remains safe. Review any areas identified as needing improvement for delivery completion.
  • Monitor the standards required to maintain RTITB accreditation and work with operational managers to improve performance.
  • Ensure the standards that are laid out in our digital safety manual are adhered to at all times.
  • Create, where necessary, and assist with the preparation and revision of the safety organisation, arrangements, and procedures, and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Collate, monitor, and report safety performance data, providing comments, advice, and recommendations to support improvements.
  • Ensure that accidents and Dangerous Occurrences (DOs) are investigated adequately by operational managers. Act as a critical friend to ensure facts are established, root causes are identified, and suitable actions are defined to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Develop and nurture a class-leading safety culture through regular communications and the development and execution of action plans in response to the weekly, monthly, and annual safety checks.
  • Deliver manual handling training and assessments in the workplace.
  • Deliver all necessary training that is required, ensuring safety passports at all levels are current and up to date.
  • Attend monthly Health & Safety meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of EHS practices.
  • Uphold and champion partnership ways of working with Safety Representatives and Managers, taking accountability for building relationships with external partners as well.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to quality activities and compliance.
  • Report on quality metrics and escalate issues as needed to ensure prompt resolution. Some UK travel required, with overnight stays and attendance at meetings or conventions outside of normal business hours.
  • All people leader roles within the Central Logistics Centre will need to be \”on call\” for emergency orders and alarm call outs.
  • All people leader roles within the Central Logistics Centre will need to participate in a weekend working rota.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in a logistics or pharmaceutical environment.
  • National NEBOSH certificate
  • Strong knowledge of Good Distribution Practice and EHS management systems.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance of EHS standards.
  • Experience of influencing managers/peers
  • Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships across departments, demonstrating a collaborative approach.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and quality standards in pharmaceutical distribution.
  • Proven track record in managing audit trails and carrying out the appropriate ESG procedures to ensure compliance according to the GDP guidelines.
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • Highly organised, able to manage stress and set priorities for yourself and your team.
  • Proficiency in conducting audits
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment, including standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and move materials as needed.
  • Comfortable working in varying temperatures within the warehouse environment.
  • A team player mindset is essential to this role.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and warehouse software with the ability to navigate between multiple systems seamlessly.
