Principal Engineer/Engineer Major and Estate Development | 7624 | permanent contract | 37 hours per week | £42,463 to £52,594 per annum (Scale K/L) | County Hall
Norfolk is a beautiful and dynamic county which is experiencing unprecedented growth in housing and employment across all Districts with large scale urban extensions coming forward. The Growth and Investment directorate plays a key role in ensuring the future prosperity of Norfolk. Within Growth and Investment, the Major and Estate Development team represents the highway authority in determining major planning applications across the County.
There are two Job Descriptions for different grades and applications are welcome for both jobs. The job appointed will depend on experience and demonstration of the relevant competencies.
The team is looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and proactive individual who wants to work in a vibrant and forward-thinking environment to help deliver ambitious long-term sustainable growth in Norfolk. You will be involved in a range of activities including helping to bring forward countywide strategic development sites and major development working with Local Planning Authorities, developers, elected members and other stakeholders in the planning process.
You will represent the County Council in the consideration of large-scale growth proposals at all stages of the planning process through to delivery, ensuring travel choices are widened and safe and sustainable development is delivered. You will influence and build partnerships across local authorities and external organisations developing strong networks to help deliver multi-agency projects. This will involve attending public meetings, planning committees and development & delivery team meetings.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in an appropriate discipline or have the relevant appropriate experience. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders and have an appreciation of operating in a political environment on often complex and contentious matters. You will need to demonstrate your ability to collaborate with elected members, partners and other organisations.
The position is both challenging and rewarding; you will deal with often complex proposals; have a good attention for detail, have a sound knowledge of highways and transport matters and the skills to influence the outcome of key decisions taken by others.
Interviews will take place in person. You will be expected to regularly work from the office; however, all our office-based roles include hybrid working as part of our smarter working plans to support health and wellbeing. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling remote collaboration with colleagues and partners when needed. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity to work remotely.
For an informal discussion regarding this vacancy, please contact Liz Poole (Major and Estate Development Team Manager) via email at or on 01603 638009.
